So they had their site showing 'down for maintenance' for about an hour, and now when I rclick an item and click 'find upgrades', i get a page that lists only the item I have equipped .. and its SCORE shows NaN%
This is one issue, for which we're working on a fix.
If i select find upgrades, i end up with an entire page of the same item i have equipped. I mean it lists it like 50 times one after another. If I remove the 'find upgrade for XXXXXX' which should then just list items using the weighting .. i get 'no results found'.
Why is this broken? Its been broken since yesterday!
This is a separate issue which we missed. Spotted it now and we're working on it.
You'd of thought some testing would be involved prior to changes being made, like using a seperate site prior to moving things live. And then to have such a crucial feature unavailable for nearly 3 days? I'm sad.
We have a dedicated test server, and Miyari and I (mostly Miyari) hand test every change before it goes out. There are hundreds of changes that go through every time we push code live, though, and sometimes something slips through the cracks, or something affects a random piece of code elsewhere on the site that we didn't think to test, or two pieces of code that we tested independently interact in a weird way. If you are of the opinion that converting a former bedroom project website into a frequently updated, six-million-user, 6-man-dev-team monstrosity, I welcome you to try it for yourself. ;)

In my not-so-humble opinion, this is an "epic enough" loss that I would have immediately reverted to the old code and retest until the new code was stable.
I've never posted on the forums until now, but I've been checking them daily since this 'little bug' first appeared and I have to agree.
I can use thottbot for quest info, wowwiki for profession details, mmo-champ for cata news and items. But wowhead is a valuable and unique resource for its item comparison against weighted stats. And that's broken, has been for days now.
I simply can't fathom how a site crippling issue such as this wouldn't result in an immediate roll back.
Every -day- this goes on, people in desperate need of information find alternatives to a presently broken wowhead. And while yes, most people will rejoice when it's fixed and they can go back to old happy habits... some of the traffic you lose to competitors is lost forever.

The code you're talking about reverting was a major bug fix. Not that this isn't a major bug, but it's not as simple as just reverting.
As far as the weight scales being broken, I'm honestly shocked—I really didn't know anyone used this feature. We were actually really frustrated internally because we felt like we worked hard on the stat weighting system and it didn't get used very much, and it only saw about 100-300 pageviews a day.
My personal blog
gets almost that many pageviews. :P
I honestly hadn't realized that this was a loss that people would feel so keenly that going without it for a day or two would be a big deal. I
certainly
never thought of it as the site's "primary benefit".
I've spoken to the dev team so we can get the fix for this stepped up in priority.

Thanks so much!
I actually have a page bookmarked for each class I play, with their stat weights. It's a spectacular and amazingly vital feature.

Certainly sorry if I came off as crass. Part of my... 'anxiety' about this, shall we say, is that my friend and I have been using the stat weighted upgrade tool on a daily basis while leveling our new characters.
If nothing else, take it as praise and compliment. I adore that feature. I show it to all of my guild friends and new wow players, and they are extremely happy it exists. It is a far, far more useful tool than the official armory's upgrade suggestions as users can filter out normals versus heroics, quests versus vendors, and so on. And some folks, my new to WoW associate in particular, are lost without it. It's meant a lot of combing through atlasloot tables manually since the system poofed.
Shame that web design appreciation falls into the same bag that programing and store services do. You often don't discover how many people used or enjoyed that particular feature until it breaks or is removed.
Don't feel bad, Digg is having it much worse. Though their user base is having an exodus as the staff behind that site seems to have no concern about what people enjoyed about its pre-update design.
I'd love to see the auto-forging and 4.0.1 compatibility in action! I'd just really, really like to have the feature I've been using a few times a day over the course of gearing up my new druid to come back as well.

Long time user, first time poster. While endgame gearing obviously requires more research via elitistjerks or the like, this tool has been invaluable until that point is reached. Just leveled my 9th 80 today and I'm still trying to find the best gear, either through questing or dungeons and this is (and has always been) the best way to find an appropriate upgrade. It does the math, etc. so I don't have to and gives me a blueprint for gear choices. Sorry you were stuck with a major bugaroo on the weekend, but this feature definitely needs more attention in the future. Without a doubt, it is certainly one of my "primary benefits".

This has been since the day it went live the best wow help site there is, considering the time and effort involved you would think people would wait more than a couple minutes before complaining. It's not like your paying for this service, nobody owes you crap, So just take your meds, chill out and things will undoubtedly be back to awesome before you know it.

I love the stat weighting feature, it enables me to just look at whats best for me without having to do a bunch of research on blogs and websites, its a huge time saver and my favourite feature of wowhead.
