O I did it with 2 cobblestone swords, but again I was in water.
And you did not fall down into a massive pot hole that the creepers enlarged :P
But yeah, I was new to the game then, probably would have had a decent chance now that I am used to it, at least a better chance then that incident.
Well I'm trying to make an iron door system for a treasury and trying to hide the circuits.
Its not going well.
I got half of it done (One door) now for the other half.
Nice, in the aesthetic area in my base I have an office with a painting on the wall, to activate the iron door behind it you need to drop something on a wooden pressure plate and hit a lever, there is also an over-ride lever hidden within the safe-room behind it. Yes, even my aesthetic areas have functions besides looking cool.

I want to make a code like thing with pressure plates (step onto the plates in the correct order to open the door for a lever) but I don't know how I'd accomplish that.

You'd need to make a redstone memory unit since pressure plates only apply power for a brief instant.
Alternately you could use wooden pressure plates and binary logic. You'd just have to toss items on the plates to keep them active. (but that would defeat the stepping on plates in a sequence)
Ouch. I just resorted to downloading
this
, making a bookcase bridge, and covering the hole for my ladder to my secret area with the bridge. Much easier and less complicated.

So I started a forest fire for the hell of it, and its amazing how ineffective water is.

And it's funny how much loot you get from random logs that are on fire. I got a whole chest full of bacon when a lava flow I found caused a forest fire. So many mobs were running into the flames and getting burnt :D

So, how many people still play this here?

Not me. I quit when I realized that if survival is the goal, you can dig down three blocks from your spawn point, put one piece of dirt over yourself, and win. I'm not good at open ended games.

Technically the goal is whatever you set it to be :P

Don't play it but still avidly watch Yogscast / JesseCox / Coestar, and remain as enthralled as ever

I still play it. I've started working on a calculator with a 7-segment display hooked up during breaks in classes. The template display is built, just have to finish the decoder, copy them as needed, build the parts that will actually do the math, and hook it all together.

I build a giant arena containing themes pertaining to the 4 basic major elements (in fantasy settings) :D
EDIT: OK, so, here's my reason for rezzing this thread. This multiplayer server I play on is lacking new members, and I'd like to know if anyone would like to join it. If so, please follow this
link
and the sign up instructions. I've been made an admin there, so I can approve you once you've followed the correct procedures. It's a really cool place, and I'd like to play with some of the people on Wowhead.
EDIT EDIT: I'm Lawnchair. Send me a PM if you do sign up so I'm notified of you signing up, please.

Pistons look amazing.

Pwntiff, you referring to the
official implementation
or the mod? I think jeb_ did a good job from what I've seen in that video - it's still a piston, but it's got a design that fits in with the rest of the game, and it's not as costly to make (doesn't require six iron/gold for one piston) or powerful (can't send entities flying like the mod version).

Pwntiff
Yeah, talking about the official one. Never was a fan of mod additions like that.

That they do. I can't wait till the come out and the server admins update the server so we can use em, I have so many ideas for them.
