Best leveling Spec?

I've always understood Combat to be the preferred leveling spec, largely because it's the least gear-specific. You can use any weapon you get for Combat, where Assassination & Subtlety either require daggers or give bonuses for their use.

Subtlety still sucks, with recuperate only to a a lesser extend. The problem is with the programming of mob abilities. Subtlety relies on stealth and mobs are programmed to frustrate it. A stunned or stunlocked mob is getting free shots on you when it dies. You will find youself tagged with a dot after killing a mob. You can neighter stealth nor bandage for the next 30 seconds. Cloak of shadows helps, but that's a level 58 ability.
For one, if there is a dot, it will hit any rogue spec, muti and combat don't MAGICALLY remove or avoid dots on them, so that's any rogue. And both muti and sub relied on stealth to varying degrees as they had talents for being in and/or just coming out of stealth. Only spec stealth was even remotely worthless for was combat (which is basically just a fury warrior in leather)
Sub was perfectly fine for soloing, if you needed to get to a place but didn't want to end up fighting, stealth in, grab what you need, and vanish when you get aggroed and you are gone. You could either kill or severely damage a mob in 2 moves for certain which means there wasn't a long battle in the first place. Also, as sub you just needed to learn to crowd control a little more, which it had talents for as well. Maybe not so much now, but it is still capable. Just matters on play style.

And the only thing for sub that requires daggers is back stab, which you don't necessarily HAVE to use. Hemo spam STILL hurts the target a decent bit.

Though I will say, two manning while leveling (you and a healer or off healer) in combat was great, you had multi mob killing power and no down time.

Quick combat lvling question that doesn't deserve a separate thread: is it worth it to spend your CPs and energy on SnD in dungeons? Assuming you're in a decent group that pulls at an above average speed.

Low level subtlety relies on a the stealthed opener, unlike combat and assassination. Assassination just runs from mob to mob spamming mutilate, much like combat does with sinister strikes.

Yes, SnD is the single best thing for combat. Get CP > SnD. Don't let it drop, the rest of your abilities is bliss. And since the old rank 1 got 'removed', low level SnD is 40% haste as well..

I have never partied with a mut rogue that ran from mob to mob spamming mutilate, they always went into stealth first. And the only reason combat did that is because if they used a sword, axe, or mace (which they should be) they couldn't ambush (which is different now).
Either way, if you want to put combat out of it...sure, but both sub and muti relies on it in some form. It is always the first thing you do before you attack. Mut required it for a few of its talents as well as sub. And if you don't quest out in the world and NEVER use stealth, why are you playing a rogue? Now if you are gonna say that Sub relied on its stealth skills (ambush garrot and cheap shot) then ill go with that. but even then, a sub rogue doesn't have to be in stealth to use them, and its NOT all they have.

It is true though. If you dont go ranged why play Hunter? If you dont cast spells why go mage? If you dont heal yourself while leveling why go Druid? If you dont stealth why play rogue?
I like rogue
and
efficiency.
That stupid arguement of stealth has grown weary and too stereotype.
Also i dont care that much about leveling.
Its only a small fragment of the real game.
The arrogant comment was directed at Caperons general attitude to most of the posts in this forum.
Butthurt?
There seems to be a "Pfft, you idiot" vibe in his posts
I wonder why..

While its true the argument about stealth is stale...it is still a main part of the rogue's game play (unless you are a combat rogue) Though i don't find leveling a small part of the game play, i find it just as big really, you have to GO 80 levels (soon to be 85) before you can even do endgame content. And even then, you can only do endgame content so many times over and over again.

Why can't I be a melee hunter? Or a melee mage? Why can't use bandages as a druid instead of healing spells?
Just because class can do something doesn't mean you have to use it.
If your a combat rogue and are questing there really isn't a reason to stealth. It's faster to charge in on your mount and beat stuff down than it is to stealth up and attack.
As for Caperon's attitude, maybe you could stop spouting off stupidity and arrogance everywhere Cap wouldn't be so annoyed with your comments.
So, you are telling me, that if you are a mage, you find that since your frost bolt takes too long to cast you decide to melee instead...is that efficient? Or a druid healing a friend or themselves with bandages? If your ability is essential to the class...you kinda have to use it. By your logic a shaman can be just fine never using his totems, or his shields, an elemental shaman can just run up and auto attack things, A prot paladin never use righteous fury, a dk tank never use blood presence, a druid tank staying in human for to tank...SURE ill go with that, none of them really HAVE to use those abilities to do their job... :/ there is a little bit of irony and sarcasm in a few of those sentences.
And while it IS true that combat really has no need to stealth...stealthing up, cheap-shoting, and beating the mobs face in while it cant do anything is a far better idea than running up, letting yourself get hit while you dps him down, and then have downtime to heal. (especially if you dont have cp for recup)

Ah nvm, i see what you are saying. But yea, bandages aren't essential to a druid healing youre right. stealth for a rogue on most aspects...IS. Muti has a talent that gives increased energy regen from being in stealth and just coming out of stealth. Yes, sounds like stealth is useless, and you really dont have to use it. Sub gets increased damage while in and coming out of stealth. Yea, useless, you dont have to use it. Combat, you COULD stealth up cheap shot and kill the mob without taking damage, but its not as FAST as doing it the other way, id rather have to heal myself afterwards.
edit: for spelling

Eh? Understand what? I'm really not bothered by anything. I just dont like when someone is pretty much calling a class spec or mechanic stupid, useless or pointless. Like a guy who told me combat was worthless because it didn't have high single target damage :/

The reason why i quoted a statement of yours.
