ok we all know the 4 healing classes,
there are plate healers, paladins.
there are mail healers, shamans.
leather healers, druids.
and of course cloth healers, priest.
each class has healing items of their armour type, and the heals more or less are equal. (they heal for roughly the same amount only exceptions are druids cause they use mainly OT heals)
but when it comes to pve, you want your healer NOT to die halfway through the battle so honestly why have a healer that wears cloth?
to add on to that shaman healers can reincarnate and paladins can put up a bubble.
besides if it is the cloth items that give more healing paladins, shamans, druids can also wear cloth items.. why play a priest?
then we talk about dropping threat. yes priests have fade. but in a raid, would the healer actually out threat the tank? if he does the tank has failed!
then we talk about mana management. priests have shadow fiend and meditation. but just take a good look at mana costs of heals. priest heals cost the most mana and paladins cost the least. besides that shamans have mana spring water shield mana tide, paladins have a talent that returns mana when heal crits. so why priest?
then we talk about healing weapons. only problem to this is, paladins cannot hold staves. but honestly, this is the most important of my post, WHY DO ALL HEALING STAVES SUCK SO BAD?
assuming
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30908
is the best healing stave. (in fact i cant find another better then this, unless you are comparing spirit, it drops of hyjal)
kara healing mace + kara healing shield is already compareable to it.
so WHY WHY WHY play a priest?

You forgot the fact that multiple priests don't bring additional buffs to the raid.

Options. Can a pally heal a group of people aoe style if needed? Can a pally/shaman/druid put a shield on someone but let them keep mob attention in a pinch? Can anyone other than a priest heal a target and themselves with one spell? Mass dispell? AOE fear?
Each class has their ups and downs. I've always seen it like this:
Priest: Best to get tank back up after big spike in damage and aoe healing ability.
Pally: Most consistent and long lasting healer. Arguably best single target healer.
Shaman: Best group healer w/ chain heal and earth shield.
Druid: Best off healer to keep all damage subdued with their hots. Makes raid life easy for other healers.
gotta love the formatting buttons!

For starters let me ask you this, how on earth did horde players ever survive pre BC if priests are such terrible healers?
I agree that Pali's are very strong healers and probably the best single target healers in the game, but that right there is both a pro and a con. Being a single target healer, who's going to keep the rest of your raid up? standard is 7 healers for a 25man raid.. boss fight lasts 7-10 mins. Put 7 palis in there to heal. How much mana will you have after 10 mins of healing 25 people thru AoE's, fall damage, adds and the like? How many people will you have alive?
Priests are squishy yes but how many other classes can continue healing for 15 seconds after death without regards to mana or threat? How many healing classes have both a very strong 3 second cast group heal with available talents to reduce mana cost by 20% plus pray of mending, plus a powerful HoT, plus, if specced right, priests have two instant cast group heals (holy nova and circle of healing). Priests are powerful healers because they are versitile. They can seamlessly switch from group healing to single target healing. Priests are also the only healers in the game that can say they have a viable and desirable CC, Karazhan would be much more difficult, tho doable, without shackle undead. Priests also have mind control which is a bang ton of fun in heroics. Give them a healer to CC and he can used the NPC to heal the party while at the same time keeping CC'd for up to sixty seconds.
In an ideal situation your healer should never get hit. If your healer has aggro one of two things has happened, either someone has not done their job properly, or the the healer has done something terribly wrong in which case he deserves to die and maybe will learn something from it. If your healer isn't getting hit then your healer doesn't need any armor now does it?

I am pretty confused by the "healers need armor" thing...I'm trying to think of a single raid boss I've seen that hits healers with something mitigated by armor(unless they pull aggro, which they should never do). Just counting ssc and tk w/o their bosses:
Hydross: All elemental damage(not mitigated by armor)
Lurker: Only things a healer should ever get hit by is the occational eruption thing...which is not mitigated by armor.
Leo: I guess the initial hit of whirlwind may be mitigated by armor...but they should never get hit by it anyways. If they happen to get hit by the demon's fire, not mitigated.
FLK: Totem is not mitigated. Ice nova is not mitigated. Doombolts are not mitigated.
Tidewalker: graves are not mitigated by armor. not sure if earthquake is, but i doubt it. Water globules(which you shouldn't get hit by) aren't.
Al'ar: Flame buffet isn't mitigated...I guess if you get hit by an add in phase 2 armor would help.
Lootreaver: Healer can only get hit by the arcane orbs...not mitigated by armor.
Solarian: Guess the adds might hit you once or so...nothing else is mitigated by armor.
So why do healers need armor again?

what about the 30% int bonus that shaman and paladin healers have?
and 1 more question, if healing staves suck so bad why are they even there >_<
also, its not only about the amour, because leather/plate/mail tend to give more amour then cloth. i did a search under "cloth +stam/healing, leather, mail and plate +stam/healing" and always its the plate mail and leather that have the stam.
priests have 25% spirit bonus healing but honsetly who goes all out on pumping spirit?

Because priests can heal enough for the warlock to freely life tap and restore mana enough to keep the mage from evocating 2 minutes in, all while they do some pretty good dps.
