How much attention do you get playing a female?

I'm a female irl and I play female toons (several of them blood elves). I play on EU servers.
I don't really get any attention. Every once in a while someone will do a flirt or kiss emote to me but I usually just ignore. I've found that you won't get much attention unless you're seeking it.
In fact, I always get called a he and a man and a dude.. so I assume that they are just assuming that I'm a guy, despite my character being female. And that's fine with me.

I read an article in a newspaper a few weeks ago, that said that up to 66% of the people on the internet are females. But, 70% of them were "undercover", pretending to be male.
On the internet, girls are men and kids are FBI agents.

I got a tell like that once doing a Mara run. I became the guy's friend and he thought I was a girl for like 6 months, then I quit WoW for a while and when I came back I joined a different server. He never found out.
I used to bug the crap out of him, I think that because he thought I was a girl he never got mad at me.
OH MY GOD, MY LOVE, I FINALLY FOUND YOU!11

I never said it was true. I just said I read it.

One can make quite a dime on RP servers hanging around in Goldshire.

Some of our female guild members play female characters, and they only get hit on when on vent.

Keep in mind that flirting is good for your health ;) It burns calories, increases blood flow, and has many other side benefits.

Aside from that being speculative and variable for everyone, flirting over the net is quite different.
As Baalah and Bellandra says, I doubt anyone will get a lot of attention if they don't "play along with it," regardless of being male or female. I think many men would have problems playing along with a woman who plays male characters though. However, I think the spirit of the topic was whether you get some random attention, like random people who try to flirt and get the ball rolling. Perhaps some /whistle emotes. Not whether it persists beyond that.
Quoting myself:
My female characters haven't received much random attention, but it does happen once in a while. If you play the role out through chat, it'll obviously happen more often.
So if you play the role of actually being female in a male-ridden community, you'll definitely attract attention, as I know from in-game friends who I know do/did this. I think presumed women
receive
a lot more whisper conversations than presumed men, regardless of it being flirting or just general chatting.

I'm a girl and I play all female chars, however I rarely get attention from random strangers :S I can only think of once when a guy blew me a kiss for ressing him when he fell from some crazy height, then he ran off and I never saw him again.

I have heard many guys say (in order to try to justify playing females): "If I have to stare at the @ss of something all day, I would rather have it be a chick than another guy."
And I assume these must be bad at the game because if they're staring at their toon's bottom, how do they manage to pay attention to everything else that's going on? There's so much to keep an eye on, damage, threat, enemy players in PvP, environment... I find that "excuse" to be lame. I don't play female toons to stare at their attractive attributes, I play them because I feel more confortable playing a female than a male.
Cause ya know what, I'm in a hostile, combat-like, non-farming/questing/jacking around, state the ENTIRE time that I am in the game. Yup. I fall under the people that use that "excuse" for my female characters. Sometimes it's nice to play a female toon after having the back-end of my male tauren wagging it's tail at me as I ran around doing dailies. It is certainly much more aesthetically pleasing. Some of us play it to live and breathe endgame, some of us play to enjoy the look and feel of the game. The way your character looks is certainly a critical piece of that "look and feel".

I can honestly say, I've never understood why guys choose to play female characters...

Because you can tell almost straight away who is a guy and who isn't.
If this were generally true, this thread would not exist.
