What on earth are you doing with your playtime, if you're going to spend even a third of it in a taxi? I tend to be questing, gathering, instancing or hanging around, with raiding and running 5-mans at the very top of time consumption for max-level characters. Time en route for these is somewhere between nothing and very, very little compared to time played.
Gathering could take a taxi to get to where I want to gather/grind, but commonly I'll be going under my own power, and do a bit of herbalism, mining or skinning on my way.
Hanging around obviously takes no taxi-cab time.
Questing in Outland and Cata Azeroth has very little travelling about, and once you get flying, it's next to nothing. Still no time in a taxi. Outland isn't too bad in this regard either.
The only case in which you could spend large amounts of taxi time, and have it significantly reduced by the portals, is if you move around the world a whole lot. Why would you be doing that?
And may I remind you that six months of complaints will not bring the portals back? You'll have to keep it up all the way to the next expansion, when the new situation might or might not warrant some portals, at which point a vocal minority may be able to tip the scales if they're otherwise equal.
But I wouldn't count on that happening. And I certainly don't think you'll be able to keep up the QQ for that long, not even for the six months, which really isn't that long a time.
QQ at Wowhead counts for nothing (have you read that somewhere before?) and being loud and obnoxious doesn't garner support for your... cause. Quite the contrary. Go QQ in private, it'll be just as effective, and a lot less annoying.
And as for the removal of all other magical methods of movement, I'd learn to live with it pretty fast, especially since such a move would be a part of a larger plan. When removing the portals, the services became available where you were. No need to go to Azeroth while in Outland or Northrend, and no need to skip around all the time while in Azeroth. Cooking/fishing dailies is the only thing you'll find in one capital and not in another, so if you want those, set your hearthstone in the appropriate capital when you're done leveling.
As for why there were portals to every city, I guess it's a matter of lore politics and consideration for players. Why favour the people Exalted with Orgrimmar over those who quested and became Exalted with Undercity? Better not to favour one course of leveling too much over the others.

to all these posters that are so opposed to portals. well then i guess they wouldnt have a problem if blizzard also removed mage ports warlock summons and all items that allowed magic means of travel. "argent tabard, kirin tor ring, summon stones etc" after all theres a whole new world of content to explore so why ruin the exploration by using these items to go back to as they put it "outdated content" i mean if a warrior is having to use the same flightpaths as a mage then all of a sudden the mage would QQ because of the inconvenience of long flights but so what we got a pretty skyline to stare at? not everybody is interested in spending 1/3rd to 1/2 their playtime riding on a taxi. i thought the game was called "World of Warcraft" not "World of Hailing Taxi"
No one is opposed to portals dude; of course, as there are now 3-6 flight points in a zone, the long drawn out flights are a thing of the past, which you would know if you left Dalaran and your whining and actually head out into the wilds.
But yeah, you have no clue what your talking about, and when you post, I'm just seeing a 12 year old throwing a temper tantrum, kinda of like this
guy

Here's why
.
Referring to the original blue post on that page, I find it incredibly difficult to believe that portals were only there because of class trainers and auction houses. If that were the case, then why were there portals to
all
major cities, and shattrath? You would only need a portal to one major city in order to access things like class trainers and the auction house.
In terms of class trainers, at least, I seem to recall that capital cities did NOT have all class trainers in them before the Shattering. For example, in my case, as a paladin, I had to go to either Undercity or Silvermoon for my class training, as Org and TB had no paladin trainers. Silvermoon and UC, on the other hand, did not have shaman trainers, and druid trainers wer ONLY in TB. This was only ever slightly alleviated in Wrath, and is yet another reason, on top of others, that there were portals to ALL the capitol cities.
There was a Pally trainer by Thrall for a long time. Druid trainers were in TB, Silvermoon, nd Moonglade, as well. I think Kalimdor did have the only Shaman trainers though.

Why do you need to return to Dalaran? The level 85 vendors are in Org/SW.

Wall of text hits Funden for 1 physical (9,999,999 overkill).
Funden dies.

my point remains valid your saying portals are obsolete and are no longer needed.but yet in order to reach hyjal and other new areas you will be using a portal to get there. you want all portals removed then i guess you wont have a problem flying to those areas rather than taking a port there after all portals have no use to the new worlds content
Oy, let's try this...again.
The portals in Outland and Dalaran are being removed as a polite way of telling players to get the fork out of those cities and go back to the main world. They were replaced with the things that originally forced you to leave Outland and Northrend, hence interrupting your leveling, that being an auction house and class trainers. Those two hubs are now there entirely for the purpose of leveling and nothing more, 81+ players have no reason to be there and the removal of portals in those cities facilitates that.
The portals that are being placed in the capital cities are there in order to encourage players to start hanging out in those cities instead of the ones in Outland and Northrend.
Are we seeing a pattern here? Blizzard puts the portals where they want people to hang out, and takes them away from the areas they no longer want the end-game players to be. Hence the removal of portals from old hubs and adding them to where they want the new hub to be.
The removal of instant city to city portals is also because they want mages to actually have a use for their portals again, for one thing. Once you got to level 58 you never had to ask a mage for portals again, hence the portal spells became useless. Now in order to city jump instantly you have to go to a mage again, so mages can now rejoice at having useful portal spells again.
You pouting abut the portals being taken out isn't going to get them brought back (especially if you keep insisting on doing it on this forum). The fact that they are gone is 100% working as intended, they WANT you to have to travel. It wasn't like they were taken out because they got bored and decided to delete something, they got rid of them to reinforce the new hub and mage portals.
Anyway, I'll say this yet again, but you still won't listen I'm sure. Go to the O-Boards. Nothing you say here, no matter how eloquent or well thought out (not that any of your posts are either) is going to make a lick of difference to the game. Blizzard does not read this forum with the intent of coming here to make changes to WoW. If you want any chance at all of making a difference go make a post on the O-Boards.

Your point remains stupid Roadkilla, but continue on with your useless rant, it is amusing to watch such horrible grammar and punctuation occur.

Internet tough guy lol.
Not really; we've told him repeatedly that posting here does nothing as this is not a Blizzard site, but he doesn't seem to understand that...or you know, he makes these types of post on the actual Blizz forums, and they lock them because they can tell it's trolling. The mods are nicer here.

I almost hope they don't lock this thread. Reading through here has given me so much entertainment, and even replying to roadkill so they can try to rip apart my post completely ineffectively is fun to read.
