Healing takes skill now, not saying it didn't before, but now you really need to try. I considered quitting, but hey, I'm not going to quit that easily. Now I'm at average item level 341 and heroics are going fine

Although...I really wouldn't mind a buff to healers..it would really help

Wow, incredible! So many people failing at doing something simple as healing, tsk tsk tsk, oh well, i just hope they don´t nerf anything because of people sucking at the game or not even trying to L2P.
Edit: Uncle´s post is the best over here, people need to adapt!

Shaman healer now, and absolutely despise the new healing. I'm now leveling a priest, ...
Ok, I'm confused, I have no idea what you are trying to say there. :)
I am a Shaman healer. I had A LOT of trouble healing heroics and was about to go all out dps, BUT I changed my thinking a bit, re-gemmed, re-enchanted and use my Synergies & procs. Now I hardly have any mana issues. My only issue was Chain Heal healing the equivalent of a splash of perfume, but I see in 4.0.6 it is getting a bit of a buff so might actually start using it to proc tidal waves again.
I am finding the new heal system to be a good change, could use a tweak here and there on the healing spells.
We only do Guild Runs, have not healed a random, and from what I can remember about the last random I did do... not going to either.
Anyway, may your heals never miss. /salute

FotM ftw!
That said, people are realising how hard healing is at the moment, im getting a lot more "good job healer" and "lets go again we have a good healer".
Credit where credit is due *s&*!@#$*

Heroics arent hard, the scaling with better gear is immense.
Once u start getting more 346 gear, u getting more bored already.
Plus the fact we've been running heroic for some time now and most people know the fights and how to handle encounters.
Where i ended up oomed @ early days, i now sit @ 50% to 70% mana in the end, im using Shadowfiend not for the mana on most fights but for the sake of extra damage during Hero or just without hero to buff my dps as Smite spec.
If u think Heroics are still hard with decent heroic gear, i would wish u the best of lucks in raids.

Since I've leveled 2 other healers (resto and resto) I deem priests sub-par. Healing as a priest requires skill and a weary group. Especially resto shaman wind shear is so great. But if priests try real hard the sucking maybe gets raised to tolerable levels.

I have had a priest as my main since the start of BC and since dual-spec was introduced I've been Disc/Holy. I never want to play Disc again at this point. I loved the mana efficiency and the concept of preventing damage in the first place. That play style seems to have died due to bubble-spam/PvP QQing and been replaced with a revamped LoLSmite. For me, no thanks. I've seen a few priests do great with the new spec and I wish them luck. I like the new Chakra mechanic so I'll be going Holy/Shadow for now.
I also have a resto druid and a resto shaman. Only the priest and shaman are at 85 now and geared enough for Cata Heroics. The shamy was much less painful to level and I've had a much easier time pugging heroics. I no longer plan to heal on the druid, Bear/Kitty is the direction I'm thinking of.
From the time I started playing I've been a healer and now after 4yrs I'm getting rid of healing specs. When I would get bored with one style of healing I'd hop on an alt. Healing for me isn't as fun anymore. No one likes to die, it was my job to make sure you didn't (despite the large pool of fire under your feet), because you died I wasn't doing my job, and /kickthehealer. People can argue all they like about what is and isn't difficult/hard/challenging the fact remains that everyone needs to learn the game again to certain extent and its easier to blame the someone else than to take responsibility for your own actions.

I just started playing WoW for the first time a month ago, so maybe I can bring a fresh perspective to the discussion. I did my research, started using Healbot and Omen3, and leveled my way to 70 (and counting) through random dungeons, mostly. In most cases (IE the tank does not suck), healing has been easy. Now, I know I haven't made it to the hard content yet, but I'm really chomping at the bit for it, because I am getting a bit tired of rolling through most dungeons with a full mana bar, overhealing everyone.
That isn't to say that I don't enjoy stomping through dungeons with well-coordinated groups, but I feel most useful as a healer when I'm not just casting on the tank over and over; the healer really shines when the group is struggling, when someone makes a mistake - when the tank is bad, or the group accidentally pulls a few adds, and the healer is the only thing keeping the group up. So far, the mistake tolerance for the normal, BC and WotLK dungeons has been pretty high, and I'd like to see more challenging content over the next 15 levels.
P.S. In my experience in randoms, there seem to be a lot fewer tanks than healers. Maybe I'll roll one of those next.

We had a Druid healer quit, but that was just before Cata.... I quite enjoy my priest.
I personally don't tend to have mana issues, but I don't heal idiots. If someone is standing in fire / pulls aggro they get 1 heal & 1 warning.... Unless it's the tanks fault, then I yell at them. They continue to stand in fire, they die, simple as that.... Saves lots of mana & frustration. I have yet to be kicked from a group, in fact about half the time the person that died gets kicked.
Mana was only really an issue for me at 84 and in low DPS groups at 85. but after getting a couple of heroic down & an epic rep piece I can normally heal through low DPS or a bad pull. I may be low on mana afterwards, but people survive.
If the group doesn't CC on the first pull & things go badly I ask the to CC from then on. If they don't CC & the next pull goes bad I leave. I only have a couple minute queue & it's not worth the frustration and constant stopping to drink.
I would say if you've learned what heals to use your second step it to learn triage and pick your groups. Not every person can be saved, and not every group will be able to make it through a dungeon....
