The Official Aeonaxx Thread

I just got Aeonaxx at 10:38 am (Sunday) on Steam wheedle Cartel.
He was flying in a small circle, had to levitate to shoot off a spell to tag him.

Story:

I decided to try for this mount around 3 months ago. My method was to camp for it for about 2 hours before I went to bed and 2-8 hours on my days off from work. I changed up the times a bit. Monday - Friday it would be 6pm-8pm if not, then 8pm-10pm. On Saturday and Sunday, I would camp randomly since the weekends are my days off. Maybe 1pm-9pm or 7am-3:30pm. It depended on my mood and my schedule.

While I camped I made sure to fly around the temple every so often.

To pass the time I watched Netflix, Disney Plus, and Youtube. I also played my Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. In this situation, it really does help to have a dual monitor set up! (Make sure you have the WOW sounds on in the background just in case one of your NPC Scan addons goes off.)

With that said, this went as you would expect... a whole lotta nothing. The only noteworthy moments were these...

1) I had a few people camp near me and want to make small talk. For the most part, it was boring and I eventually stopped interacting with them. Three people, in particular, started stalking me (over the course of a week), all around Deepholm for some odd reason. I don't know if it was to get me to quit or for some other reason. All I know is they were stalking and harassing me for days on end. Yes... DAYS. I blocked them and it didn't work. I only got it to end after submitting tickets to GMs.

2) I was camping near the entrance for Stonecore when I saw a giant drake head faintly in the distance. It looked like Aeonaxx! I went to investigate and found nothing. Maybe my mind was playing tricks on me. At this point, I had been camping in Deepholm religiously.

3) I joined the WOW Secrets Discord server and lurked around. I was in awe at how often people were killing Aeonaxx. I wasn't sure how they did it so I lurked some more and saw how they gathered everyone together. It was nice. It encouraged me to continue my hunt.

Now we move onto two weeks ago, I decided to participate in the discord's giveaways. I was now camping the Discord instead of Deepholm, patiently waiting for someone to say that they have Aeonaxx in their sights for my faction. Sadly, every time this happened, I was either at work, cooking, with family, running errands or asleep.

Eventually, a user who is well known for hunting Aeonaxx (as if he were killing rats in Dalaran's underbelly), gave out an interesting tip to another user looking for advice. His tip was to "check" on Aeonaxx not camp him and to make sure that you switch between Warmode On and Off. He said it was also wise to have multiple characters on different realms on the same spot. I thought this was interesting since all the guides and videos that I read/saw never recommended this. I also found it silly how I never thought of it.

So, I did what he said. I checked. I figured that it wouldn't hurt since the only thing I got while camping was a lot of silence and players who wanted to hang around me. The only bad thing about this was that I don't have high level characters on other realms.

I checked every day. I went in with Warmode Off and flew around the temple. I then flew back out and put Warmode On and did it again. My checking schedule went like this: Check shortly after logging on. Check whenever I go back to Stormwind, and check before logging off for the day.

This morning at 3:43 server time (6:43 eastern time), I went into Deepholm with my target macro set and Warmode On. The moment I loaded in both NPCscan and SilverDragon went ballistic. I was targeting Aeonaxx. I almost couldn't believe it. I quickly flew out and headed straight towards StoneCore. I didn't see him. I was targeting him, but I could not see him ANYWHERE! He was not showing up!

I was nervous and decided to turn back around. Right at the temple's entrance, I saw him flying above me. How I missed this giant drake is beyond me. It must have been a mixture of nerves, drowsiness and knowing that I had to get ready for work.

Without time to waste, I flew up to him and tried to see if I could get him to follow me. He acted like I wasn't there.

I grew worried since I didn't know if anyone else was in the area. I had to think fast before some jerk sniped him from me. Remembering that I still had some Goblin Glider Kits, I came up with a plan.

I flew above Aeonaxx, dismounted, used Barrage, and quickly equipped my glider. I got him!

I barely had time to celebrate since I had to get ready for work, but I was beaming.

My advice is to not give up! Maybe camping will work for you and maybe it won't. Try different things and perhaps join that Discord server. Eventually, you will get the mount!

So, I did what he said. I checked. I figured that it wouldn't hurt since the only thing I got while camping was a lot of silence and players who wanted to hang around me. The only bad thing about this was that I don't have high level characters on other realms.

You could always use trials on those other realms, then invite your real character over through Group Finder (since Trials can't loot Aeo). On some realms, it can be up for quite awhile.
