Folks whining about queue times seem to have a very selective memory. In BC you could spend 2 hours spamming trade trying to get a group for a heroic as a dps, and if you were a class without any cc you could forget ever getting in a pug for MGT heroic.
As to the rep grind, buy a blooming tabard and press the random dungeon button. In BC you had to grind rep with a faction just to get the keys to do their respective heroics, even then some dungeons needed a specific key.

When will people stop using Casual as an excuse for being bad?
P.S.
Been playing since vanilla
I don't expect you to understand, but Blizz did a great job in making most content available to the casual in the previous xpacs.
Tell me, new QQ'er, how long did it take you to get to Black Temple?
Or Sunwell?
Or Naxx 40?
Or Hyjal?
Yeah. You mean
previous expansion
. I.e. A certain Wrath of the Lich King, where everyone and
their dog
could enter the Lich King's domain.
My dog didn't have a high enough gear score :(.
Your dog is a bad. Tell him/her to gtfo.

I think some of you are confusing casual friendly with easy. Wrath was "easy" but that doesn't make it casual friendly. Lots of dailies that don't require a whole zone worth of quests to open, reps you can grind, things you can do outside of raids are what I call casual friendly. I am still liking Cata, much moreso than I liked wrath, so I'm not ready to make a judgement on whether it's casual friendly or not although I think the phasing and "on-a-rail" questing mode is very casual un-friendly but I'm not ready to bash the xpac on that alone by any means. I just wanted to post and try to get people to think and realise that "easy" and being able to pick up something to do quickly like dailies or a faction to grind for without having to have done the whole zone are very different things.

Look, I play an hour a day, and raid once every week-2 weeks on a Sunday. I was doing well enough to get into ICC in WotLK. And, this was while still focusing on other players and all. I do spend a bit of extra time on the forums, but not too-too much catching up.
So... for time, you should have plenty, just find the best/smarter ways to progress.
For the whole "constant changing"... just read patch notes. Whenever you get a new ability, just sit back for a min or 2 and think how it relates to your others.
For the whole "people say you aren't good enough". This always happens. Either they're pissed, and ignore them, or take their advice if it's good. Nothing wrong in admitting your wrong, even the best of players have to do this.
For the "should I quit". If you can find a better game. And you can't. (That's my way of saying "no").
Sure Cata made it harder. That's a challenge. Think smarter, not harder. Don't level through quests/dungeons, level through BG's (unless tanking). Do listen to the advice of others, and ask for help. Don't look at the big picture
too
much. Do try to look at where you're at, and find the fastest way of progressing towards your next step.
WoW is hard. If it wasn't, it'd be boring. WoW changes. But if it didn't, we would've all left a long, long time ago.

I'm a very casual player so to fix the problem I don't do raids anymore. To me, raids are time consuming (don't feel like sitting in my chair for 3 hours) the fights are exactly the same every time you enter the raid. No dissing on raids though, kudos to those that raid, I just don't pay my 15 bucks a month to do that. Instead, I pvp, grind reps and grind for mounts and also do quests. To me, the game is very fulfilling and so you just have to find the thing that you like in the game. I think your thinking that you want to quit the game because you can't be the best or "beat the game." You can't think like that because nobody can ever be the best. Just find what you like about the game and stick with that.

Why would I want to quit when things are finally starting to get really good?

I don't think casuals are considering quitting anytime soon. Heck, most people seems to be enjoying the game tremensely.
The only people I see wanting to quit the game came in with Wrath when Blizzard was handing epic's out like candy. Granted it was the end of the xpac but still, that's a bad habit to get your players into because now we have people who need to be trained out of that mindset, which I'm all for since I'm used to Cata now having played during Vanilla and TBC when Heroics were hard as hell and fun as all get out.
So yeah, only people I see quitting are those who can't face-roll 6k dps, get full purples and /flex.
Completely wrong. I agree with the original poster 100%. Been playing since Vanilla myself and Cata is a serious setback to what made the game fun. I could care less about epics but I'd like to be able to get some gear once in awhile. My first regular dungeon in 2 weeks and a ret pally doing 2K DPS overall won a major upgrade for my warlock. And I was top DPS at 8000dps overall. And....it took over an hour to complete for a whopping 70 Justice Points. Blue upgrades on the AH going for 15K. Epics for 20-50K... yeah..hours and hours of dailies or grinding (days more really).
Fun? More like a grindfest thats getting older and older as we speak.
So you are from Vanilla , and you think cataclysm is grindy.
You don't want epics , but you want gear.
And you want to be carried but not have a guild.
Just wrong

I mean this with as little insult as possible. I never thought I'd say it, but several people in this thread (the OP amongst them) are proving my attitude wrong, and proving
Aestu
right.
Casual <> Bad. Apparently Wrathnoobs do exist - and their tears are delicious.
I ran H-DM last night with my guild. Took us just over an hour and a half. Had several wipes because of bad pulls. But despite all that, and despite having done it twice before, I still enjoyed it, because the content remained challenging.
I don't like guilds and refuse to be in any.
Your unwillingness to shop around for a decent guild does not equate to a failure on Blizzard's part.

Been playing since vanilla but maybe it's time to to call it.
I seem to begin to think people start to throw this around like suddenly their post should matter more. Same on official forums.
I understand that as a casual player, I'll never get the chance to reach all end game content but, I feel like Cataclysm is the death knell of the "casual player".
But then they say !@#$ like this which makes me believe otherwise. Seeing as everyone knows vanilla was the heaviest grindfest if you compare all expansions with it.
It's like the new format of threads:
"Hello I've been playing since vanilla" followed by QQ

People saying "I played since vanilla and it's so hard to get geared now" are wearing blinders. It took much longer to gear up in TBC and Vanilla. WotLK was the ONLY expansion where it was easier to gear up.
Personally, I think Blizz has it perfect right now. Those complaining it's too hard really just don't want to put in the effort. If you did, you'd ask "how".
And you don't need a guild. That is a cop out. Guilds help speed things up, but they are far from required. Once people get more geared, PuG raids will become more common. You just need patience. Don't expect to progress solo as quickly as someone who has a bunch of people dedicated to work with them.
it's true it took longer gearing up in vanilla(didn't really play a lot then)/tbc but there is no denying running instances was actually fun back then. They might have brought back cc but i doubt they'll ever be able to bring back what they anhillated with lfd and that is social interaction. I'd meet interesting people on a regular basis in tbc, people you'd keep on chatting with even if the instance ended, you'd brag with about what you're guild achieved that week in raids and next time the other one would brag if he was further then you etc etc. Now you're lucky if people say more then "hey, kill skull, cc moon, thnx, bb"
so for all the casual friendly things they did/do it will never restore what was perhaps the most casual friendly ever(in my eyes)
FUN pug instances
. something you could do when you had a spare hour and wanted to just play a bit, chat up a bit and just make some fun.
What we got in return? Pug raids? They aren't fun and aren't casual friendly (hey gearscore no i didn't run 10 and 25 version every week, ow then you don't quallify for my pug) only thing they are good for is getting those epix (Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun)
O well I burried pve sometime in wotlk when it was clear blizz was making a total mess of it, and i stick to pvp now. Who would have ever thought pvp would be more social than pve (at least in pugs, guilds haven't changed ofc).

I consider myself a casual player, mostly due to time constraints, but am having a blast so far in cataclysm. I have switched mains from my retadin to my arcane mage, but am looking at swapping her to frost.
I enjoy the well played pugs in LFD and have run a few heroics, but am working on building my gear to get better. I also am only in my and a friends banking guilds, but am thinking about searching harder for a raiding guild that will accept my sometimes crazy schedule.
For the rest of the QQing casuals, if you don't enjoy what they have done to the game
don't play
. I for one and I have seen some other responses do enjoy the current content and am looking forward to getting geared and continue my quest for getting better.

OP rephrased.."why can't I get the same gear and see the same contents as someone who plays 3 times more then me?" Sorry OP, it never worked that way. Casual playing has been the mostly the same throughout the existence of this game. Only in the middle part of Wrath did I see a catering to the casual player(ie. the dropping of epics on every boss in 5man like ToC)
My definition of casual means not worrying about the pace of progress.
You only need to find 5/10 people on your server who play your style of WoW to get things done.
I managed to build a guild on my low pop server based on a common casual atmosphere and we enjoy each others company and the casual(<<there's that word again) pace of the game.
Contents is our bonus, not our existence.
OP, Sounds like you hit a wall playing WoW. Time to take a hiatus until you find your groove again..if ever. Peace!

What part of "Heroics are meant to be a destination, not a stepping stone" do you not understand? All of the casuals out there complaining that Blizzard should give the hardcores something and leave the casuals alone. Blizzard listened to you, all of your QQing payed off. 5 man heroics are now, the casual's end game content. Heroic 5 man is your, the casual's, destination. I can't believe I'm saying this but Blizzard has tried very hard to make everyone happy. Casuals have a destination, Heroic 5 mans. Hardcores have a destination, 10/25 man raids. Playing 3 hours a night and some weekends. I have still managed to gear up for heroics, complete the Cata Loremaster, get exalted with 5 of 6 Cata factions, and lvl 5 professions, to max lvl. I think the people complaining about heroics being hard want to login Tuesday morning and have a new shiny purple in their mailbox.
