And this topic is why I like dpsing on my Hunter. Tank Dieds boss not low of health then I FD. Boss low on health kite and kill.
I also like to MD the bad dps in randoms. Just to help them out alittle.
I also gearcheck the tanks in randoms. I have all the tank classes so if I start seeing issues with gear I know i'm in for a horrible run.

Here is my position as a tank. Everyone is good to go, I chain pull the whole instance, me and healer basically duo-ing the place because the dps are looting. 7 minute clear of SM-Armory.

Every time I do that fight I have this image in my head of every tank in Org trying to fly from the bank to the AH, stopping all of the sudden, and yelling to themselves OH GOD I FORGOT HOW TO MOVE AGAI- oh no wait that's right the up arrow key.
I have just been laughing to this for at least two minutes.

If all tanks are so terrible roll a tank and quit QQing.

You can't complain unless you want to do better.
I complain when my plumber does a %^&* job. That doesn't mean I have to start plumbing to defend my complaining.
Yes it does.

Yes it does.
So you're saying I don't know when my toilet is working and when it isn't? I might not know how to fix it, but I can objectively say whether it's doing what it's supposed to.
I don't dps raids, but I can definately tell you if the DPS aren't doing their jobs. I might not even know how to play their class, but I can still make that judgment. Same for Tanks if I were a DPS. There are objective standards of success.

Few tanks suck, therefor, all tanks suck. Duh.
I think people are not understanding the issue here.
"Many tanks suck --> Tanks as a group suck" is what is being said
"Many tanks suck --> Tanks as a group suck --> Every individual tank sucks" is how all the naysayers are interpreting it.

Dear tanks: If I find a normal dungeon group, and I tell you I don't know the fights, don't kick me. Explain the fights. It makes things a lot simpler, and just because I don't spend all day watching Tankspot videos, doesn't mean I can't do my job with simple instructions on my first attempt at a boss ever.

You get kicked for not knowing the fights in this situation because the tank doesn't know the encounter well enough to break it down for you. They're hoping DBM will tell them what to do and that no one will find out they didn't watch the Tankspot video.

Meh, i'm a decently geared (350ish) mastery stacking paladin tank, so I would say i have more mitigation than most pug tanks that just stack stam in every slot. Since I have two 85s at the moment, mage and paladin, I am able to view the LFD through all three roles.
What I have observed is...
As a ret/fire mage dps - Generalisation - Fail Tanks usually fail at ozruk and cannot hold aggro. (not that i blame them sometimes since i cleave combustion with impact, but then i only do that when i see the tanks are decent, but the times i've gotten aggro on my ret really annoys me, since i'm only doing the standard proc based rotation thing and is in full 346 gear albeit with proper gemming and chants)
On ret, I was asked to do beams in BRC, which I did, then got booted for only having 6k dps since tank was tanking it out of melee range half the time. Last night in Grim Batol, I spent 50 minutes waiting INSIDE the dungeon without even touching the boss.
As a Holydin - I've had more than my fair share of spamming Divine Light (with CDs popped) while on trash just to keep the party up. Which is kinda why i dropped holy and turned to ret after the recent patch.
As a Paladin Tank - Nothing usually goes wrong, if the healer can't heal me properly, i boot him, theres no reason not being able to keep up a tank with 50% block, 13%dodge/parry. A dps fails, i boot him, i like how being the tank means you're teh bawss.

I once pulled threat from a tank by autoattacking the boss. No skills, nothing else but pure autoattacks.
I don't trust DK tanks any more.

The real problem with running dungeons since cata is that almost no-one looks at a run as a group effort. A lot of trouble can be prevented with more traps, hexes, fears and incapitations. It feels to me like most people got spoiled at the end of wrath running cakewalk heroics. They now think it still works the same.
And yes, the upgraded random buff helps, but still a lot of people do not fully understand the encounters. Also more people need to learn to avoid damage.

I encounter terrible DPS a LOT more than terrible tanks...coming from a warlock.

There is another part to this, that often gets lost in this discussion. Even though the LFG tool makes everyone think that groups are cookie cutter they are not. Many factors play a part. The tank and healers roles are constant through out every run, but the DPS roles vary widely, yet many do not realize this and do not adapt the groups tactics to compensate.
Look at the many potential combinations of DPS, rogue, hunter warlock or Mage mage mage or Shaman, shaman warrior and so on. Are the same tactics applied to all those groups? Not in the slightest, yet no one mentions that. It is always the "Tanks sucks" or "the healer sucks" WHINE WHINE WHINE.
Message boards seem convinces that tanking is the only thing hard now and that healing is for the most part is thankless wack a mole and DPS is just mindless nuking.
None of the above is true.
I cant speak to healing, but DPS and tanking require a lot of focus and shifting tactics. But with that said I have an 85 warlock and an 83 warrior and by far the tanking is much harder. But the tank is so dependent on what the DPS does.
And a final note.. never PUG on the weekend.
