I wonder how many people got fed up with WoW and moved to Rift... Any of you fellas played it? I hear it's WoW minus all the junk.

I've not seen anything about Rift. No gameplay videos, no screenshots; nothing. The lack of virulence implies that it's not
that
special. Even Conan had more publicity than Rift.

One of my ex-guild members from my paladin's guild plays it, but I've heard from another ex-guildy that it's basically WoW but more clunky.

all the people I know that went over to rift started when it came out and already came back to WoW, apparently its good, just not good enough. (course I haven't played it soooo I can say anything >.>)

Besides, I don't really see what "Junk" WoW has left. Balance will always be an issue, but they're always doing the best they can to control that. I think Sinestra was a bit of a poor show; it was a shame that Method had to go through the acute hotfixing sessions -- but the tuning of raids is in a good place at the moment.
There are some suggestions that Blizzard needs to work on: for instance, promoting more socialisation through LFD by coming up with a cross-realm friends list system (outside of RealID) that allows you to invite someone from another realm to your group and instance with them. I've met two tanks over the weekend who were superlative in their attitude and ability, but I can't ever meet them again aside from making level 1 toons on their realms to have a chat with them -- and, even then, I can't play alongside them in LFD. This is a massive waste of potential, I feel.

I also don't like the guild levelling system, and I think that the social aspect of WoW has diminished in favour of more progression and incentives for working hard at the game. Probably because I'm a slacker on a roleplaying server, but still...
Edit: However, RIFT is more fresh than WoW. Many players who played WoW but play RIFT might find it refreshing, despite the similarities. After all, WoW has a ~7 year old engine now.
