A rant about my Birther, YEC, Zionist parents.

I have just gotten through with an argument with my parents about whether or not Obama can prove he was born in the US.
I am steadily growing to detest them.
I mean, I love them, and they're not dumb people, but they are so deeply entrenched in Right Wing Fundie Dogma that I'm surprised they even allow me, an atheist, to live in the house. I don't hate them, I am simply disgusted by their ignorance.
After a few years of having my brother and sisters public schooled, they've gone into full blown remission, going back to homeschooling them by reading Proverbs, teaching Hebrew, and using books like
this
as extra credit.
Near constantly I can hear someone singing the Hebrew alphabet, and I've even heard them talking about plans to move to Israel.
Their primary source of news is, of course, Faux News, but their thirst for propaganda is not simply satisfied by that. Just the other day I got into an argument with them because their watching of
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed
had filled their heads with all sorts of new ideas to attack science and reason with.
Worst of all, whenever we get into an argument, I inevitably hear at least one of my younger siblings regurgitating the arguments they've heard their parents using. Trying to debate one of my parents always ends up in debating both of them plus any number of my siblings. I thought I had a comrade in my sister, who was a budding agnostic, but in recent times, she's been listening to Christian radio and happily participating in the brainwashing my parents dish out.
I'm not using this as an argument against religion as a whole. Moderate christianity is one thing, but surely this is too far. I don't think I can take much more. Once I move out, I'm afraid that I may just have to cut and run, and hope that my siblings can escape like I did. But I don't imagine they will, and that makes me sad. America doesn't need six more fundies.

You should move to Sweden, everyone here is atheist and sane. Except... all the racists, they're not that sane.I've actually considered that, lol... :P
Scandinavia seems a lot more laid back politically than America, and Sweden's always been my favorite country there. Hopefully I wouldn't have to learn Swedish, though... :\

Shhh.
There are actually only two kinds of people: Atheists and Actors hired by the European Council for Tourism, it's a big plot to empty out America of the Atheists, then we're going to dump the rest of the world there and let them fight over who has the most peaceful god.Sounds about right.
One of the most hilariously depressing things about Fundies is that they claim to love Jaysus, who said "Love thy neighbor as thyself," and "Turn the other cheek," and at the same time, they support the death penalty, military expansion, and tend to hate other religions with a passion.

You guys are really annoying, you know that?
Granted, I've been very tempted to send a letter to the Westboro and the like saying something along the lines of He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

On birthers...
My sister and I recently got our US passports. You need to provide your
birth certificate
for the application. Here's the kicker, both our certificates are
certificates of live birth
. US passports are big deals, it's your international proof that you are who you say you are. It looks like the USPS and Dept of State are in cahoots with those socialist liberals right?
Thinking is hard, some people don't like to do it and let others do it for them. Not all of us are scientists or mathematicians, but we can take in information, digest it, and decide for ourselves.
This doesn't help the OP, but it's on topic and pretty lollerskates.

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. And love is blind, Stevie Wonder is blind so therefore Stevie Wonder is God.

/sigh Yup.
I have to deal with that kind of sh*t on a near daily basis, at least from my family. Thankfully my school it pretty secular, principle praying over graduating class aside.

I was saying Dr. Lore is annoying and responding to you about the letter.
And kind of you as well.
E: And no I'm not.

E: And no I'm not.I'm saying that Biblical literalist young earth creationist birther zionist teabaggers are a pain in the ass to live with.
I never mentioned you or your faith. That's not what this topic is about.

Funden isn't a fundie. Lawl.
On topic.
People who can't think for themselves disgust me. I'm about as tolerant as you can get. The only thing I can honestly say I truly detest without any exceptions are bigots who don't even think for themselves.

People who can't think for themselves disgust me. I'm about as tolerant as you can get. The only thing I can honestly say I truly detest without any exceptions are bigots who don't even think for themselves. The bizzare thing is that they say
I'm
the one that buys into all the rhetoric. You know, right after they go off about how Darwinism leads to atheism leads to fascism leads to genocide.
Also, less direct arguing with your parents and more talking with your siblings behind their backs might work better. After all, your parents are never going to change their minds. In my experience arguing with adult fundies is about as useful as banging your head against a wall, it's frustrating and gets you absolutely nowhere. Your siblings at least still have the potential to become fully functional intelligent human beings.I've tried that, and the folks have threatened to kick me out for it.
Plus, they're pretty deep in it as well. Only my sister really seemed receptive, but now she's bought back in. I don't even think she really cares about a "personal relationship with God" or anything like that, she's just attracted to the inclusiveness that "religion" has.
And then there's my 9 yr old brother, who I've seen reading a science book I bought him while his older brother read "What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs." He may have the potentially to break aware from YECism, but he's too young for me to try to talk to him, and it's probably not worth getting kicked out anyway.
