Breaking the Icon Barrier: Marking Translations

Since there seems to be a return to faster dungeon runs, I have noticed a trend in people marking targets with no explanation of their marks. This seems to be tied to a set of "commonly used" marks. In this topic, I will examine these and interpret them from various standpoints. Please note that as always, the best practice is to ask the person marking what their marks are for. You'll likely be ignored anyway, but you can at least said you tried.
For purposes of this exercise, I will assume the tank places all the marks.
Skull
What the Tank means: "Kill this first."
What the DPS sees: "Kill this last."
X
What the Tank means: "Kill this second."
What the DPS sees: "Kill this first."
Star
What the Tank means: "The Rogue should sap this."
What the Rogue sees: "I should sap this."
What the RDPS sees: "AoE this."
Square
What the Tank means: "The Hunter should trap this."
What the Hunter sees: "My pet should tank this."
What the Melee DPS sees: "Melee needs to try to solo this."
Diamond
What the Tank means: "The Warlock should fear this."
What the DPS sees: "The Warlock will fear this."
What the Warlock sees: "I will fear thi- oh crap, my minion broke the fear. I should start yelling 'Who broke my cc?' asap"
Moon
What the Tank means: "The Mage should sheep this."
What the Mage sees: "I should sheep that."
What the Hunter sees: "I should trap that."
What the Shaman sees: "I should hex that."
What the Healer sees: "Why the hell did all 3 DPS CC the same mob?"
Circle
What the Tank means: "We should let the Priest MC this and let the other mobs kill it."
What the Druid sees: "I should root this."
What the Priest sees: "*sigh* why must I lower my DPS to CC? Wait, why isn't my MC moving? *facepalm* @#&%ing druids!"
Triangle
What the Tank means: "The Shaman should hex this."
What the Shaman sees: "I should hex the mob beside this one."
What the DPS Warrior sees: "I should off-tank this."
Any mark put on the tank
What the Tank means: "Here I am. This is where you should be."
What the rest of the party sees: "Yup, that's the tank, alright."
Any mark put on the healer
What the Tank means: "The healer is far enough back to see where we need to go without the boss blocking his view. Follow him."
What the DPS sees: "Yup, that's the healer, alright."
What the Healer sees: "Why is there a mark on me?"
Any mark put on the DPS
What the Tank means: "Pay attention to this guy. He either has an add on him or a debuff needing dispelled."
What the rest of the party sees: "Yup, that's the (insert class here), alright."

Haha. That was a hilarious read.
Although.
Square: What the Melee DPS sees: "Melee needs to try to solo this."
Never seen this happen.

I laughed at moon. I can't even count the amount of times I switched my poly target mid pull because of an overly excited hunter.
Good lols, good lols.

Oh hell yes. I switched the party target option back on on my unit frames so I could see what everyone else was targeting and then Hex the marked mob that wasn't targeted...it was very rarely the mob I was supposed to Hex -.-

This is awesome. As primarily a tank, I am always marking targets. I setup my 2nd action bar, 1-8, with my marks. Why DPS doesn't learn these, idk?
I pay so much attention when I heal on my druid to what everyone is doing. I find myself baffled at times thinking "WTF is going on?" during many pugs. Its the constant awareness as druid heals are preemptive with healing.
I think my favorite is when I mark moon and someone breaks it, then everyone with CC shifts focus to reapply a CC to moon. Might as well kill it with that many dps'ers on it.
I suggest an addon called target charms (can get from curse) so you don't waste any space on action bars while maintaining easy marking (plus bonus world marker and ready check feature). But yeah I tank on my dk, mark the cc, but when I'm healing on my shaman I see complete moron dps breaking every cc, then re cc'ing in dnd/consecration, sheeping then proceeding to spam arcane explosion, always ends up with me facepalming watching the dps.

Excellent post, well done! :D
It's sad because it's
actually
true in most cases, though >.<
Note to OP: Add something with AoE. That always seems to happen.
