well the biggest problem I saw at the release of cata was the way that bliz changed the game every way it could.
Some good some bad but to me there was not much if any planning or thought(sorry I don't believe bliz used this in a long time)
now they bounce chrs up and down every week. one week you are doing very good and the next NO ONE wants to even talk to you much less group.
Now I read all the people saying questing is too easy change it.
Tomorrow it will be dungeons should have 20 bosses and take 50 hours to complete. THEN I will like it.
and what I feel is very bad is the FEW that scream and shout are the ones that bliz will listen to.
Everyone else that ask about why are a hole whiners and get the F out of my official site.
No I was not kicked out but a lot were and a lot did not *!@#$ but just ask why this or that, labeled as spammers or whatever.
Bliz is its own worst enemy.
There is nothing that won't be broken or nerfed from one day to the next.
At the first of cata it was all pvp and the old balance bs.
No matter what we do right or wrong DONT blame us its balance.
personally they need to fire ghostcrawler or at least put him back to the janitor he was the week before they made him a dev.
That guy can't keep anything working.
---but in truth I don't even know if they guy is a dev or has any input on anything that is done.
For all I know he is just someone they put out as a front to have someone to question and blame.

etrin,
Blizzard took at least 2 years developing Cataclysm. They had a dedicated team for this. Full hours every day, it wasn't a side-project.
They have some of the best staff, developers, artists in the industry. Their products are testament to this.
You are over-exaggerating if you say 'nobody will talk to you' because your class got balanced.
Questing is not too easy, not too hard.
If you spend 50hrs in a dungeon your eyeballs will dry out and you will die.
People get banned from the official forums for pointless posts. If Blizzard let them post it will turn into another social network with people flopping out their QQ and opinions all the time.
If you can do better than Greg Street, go ahead and submit your resume for his position.
You have a paladin, druid and a death knight at 85. If you don't like it, stop playing. Nobody here cares what you think of WoW.
You are over-exaggerating

I love how people blame Ghostcrawler for everything; from class balance to raiding, to problems with the servers....what, is he really SuperBlizzard or something? Seriously, comments against GC just make rofllmao.

Agreed. I honestly am under the impression he's just a figurehead that people spew hate, mud, and the like at.

Do certain Wowheaders wake up one day, have an opinion pop into their head and think that if they post it here everyone will agree and hold hands and sing 'Kumbaya'?
And then afterwards they log in to check their auctions.
This just made my profile. Professional comedian right there, you made my day :3

WoW is just fine, me I am bored to tears with it. That is why I am in the last few weeks of my sub.

a lot of valid points here.
What I am saying is that bliz is just changing stuff every week just for the sake of change.
Some have said its a way to make raid groups have to change all the time.
Others shout its them damn pvp'ers that are creating change after change.
I feel its a lot of just change to be changing.
Running in circles and not really having a plan just throwing darts at a board and saying yep mastery on that class is too low/high or just doesn't work.
or that class has too many X and no Z lets add Y What?
mainly I just feel that change just to say its change is not the way to go.
If I class is too weak or too strong then there might be a problem.
If a class is on the bottom of the healing tree does nerfing the top make them better?
This seems to be the way they do things and I find it a poor excuse for a 5 minute nerf instead of a 40 hour rework of what makes the bottom class this way and trying to fix the problem.

Blizzard have been continually tweaking the classes since Vanilla in search of that exclusive total balance without destroying what it was that made that class unique. This isn't anything new and it is not going to change though it is a damn site better than it was throughout Vanilla and TBC.
You can do all the storyboarding, development and testing (PTR) that you can possibly think of, and then some, but until these things hit the live servers you will never know exactly what is going to happen. So when things don't go as planned they have to be tweaked which in turn will have an unforeseen consequence on something else and so on and so forth.
I get the feeling that a lot of the people who frequent these boards would refute the statement that the sky is blue if it was a Blizz dev or other employee that told them that fact.

Blizz skewed Wrath towards a particular type of player and lost many of their original body of players...now Cata tries to bend it back towards its original play style and the Wrath babies whined about it.
What missing in this game is an overall sense of community, It's gone. You may find some refuge within the very few long established guilds, but that's it.
This happened with LFD. Plain and simple. What soon followed out of necessity was gearscore. We lost track of one another and now identify each other by ilevel. The current guild my alt is in recruits by ilevel. It's a revolving door a players coming and going and this is no small guild.
In my own guild, you only came in if someone could vouch for you as a friend.
Community/friendship is what kept people playing long after the freshness date.
This is now just a game, just like any xbox game. You play it until it turns stale and then toss it into the closet and pop in the new disk.
PS. I tried Rift this weekend.
I like that it is a pretty smooth transition from WoW. Didn't get much sense of what their tradechat is like but I didn't see anything silly. I guess the best thing I like was the total newbish feeling I got again. That feeling I first had during my early days in WoW. The talent trees look daunting but that is what players like myself like. I know many of my old time guild members who came back for Cata have quit already and switched to Rift. Being ground floor at the start of a release affords players a chance to shape the landscape of the community. There is something to be said about this. So OP..bored with WoW ...try Rift, you may find what your looking for.

That which has never existed can not "be gone."

Possibly I need to renew the prescription on my rose tinted spectacles for some slightly stronger ones as it is now over six years since I first started playing WoW and I cannot remember the Utopia like vision that a lot of other people seem to have.
I think that WoW is akin to everything else in life that you do for fun in that every now and again you need to take a break from it in order to re-find the freshness of it. Whether that be to another MMO like Rift etc. or just go out and find something different to do that isn't computer based.
Whatever, complaining that the game is dying when the player base is expanding is a touch moronic and also an oxy-moron. If Blizz hadn't made the changes to the game from the way it was in Vanilla I'd be willing to bet a large wager that there would be a lot less people playing it than there are now.Blizz skewed Wrath towards a particular type of player and lost many of their original body of players People and players will always come and go that is just the nature of things.

This sums it up. Too bad. But it does represent the view of many of today's WoW players.
But it did exist...either you missed it or you have too miserable of a personality to have enjoyed it.
My friends list use to be as important as my guild. I interacted with plenty of non guild members for dungeon/raid runs prior to LFD. I didn't have to ask for gearscore/iLevel to fill in spots. I knew who was good and who wasn't. When leaders of other casual guilds need to fill a spot, they just had to ask if any of my members needed a run, it didn't matter who I sent, they knew they were getting a good person/player and vice versa. That all change afterward.
Whatever, complaining that the game is dying when the player base is expanding is a touch moronic and also an oxy-moron. Expanding on top but eroding from the bottom. Now I can only speak from my perspective, but larger numbers doesn't translate into a better game. In truth it just made it harder for me to find good people/players. Even with this so call "expanding base" and I would like to see internal numbers to back that up not some Blizz headline, we still have a ridiculous que times and horrid LFD runs, so something is not gelling.
Yes change is good when it's based upon customer feed back..this helps improve the game.
But I have to disagree that the player base would be significantly smaller had they not made so many changes. I think Cata is a step back in the right direction, but is it enough to overcome the changes they made in the later part of Wrath, that in "my" opinion were a disaster. Time will tell.

A lot of people come here to complain since a lot of them have already cancelled their accounts and you need to have an active one to post in the official forums. At least you used to anyway.
My problem wasn't the content of Cata, but the mechanics and gameplay. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a Wrathbaby. I did start in BC a good 8 months before Wrath launch, but Wrath just fit my playstyle as a casual. Despite the overal negativity from hardcore raiders and longtimers, I throughly enjoyed the zergfest that was WotLK.
Then Cata came and reverted to the smaller talent trees and shook things up a bit. I didn't like it. Many of my favorite talents were nerfed into dust. Browsing the site now I see a lot have been nerfed even
further
.
I guess, tl;dr, Cata just changed too much for me. when I decided I was no longer enjoying playing, I cancelled, which is what a lot of people who come here and flame cata should probably be doing. The content of Cata I enjoyed, the new playstyle I didn't. /cancel. That is all.

look at the lfd problems.
I said in Nov that bliz wanted to kill it.
And they did for the most part.
NOW they are trying to get it going again.
Tanks have taken a big (put in your own) and so have healers.
They didn't mess with their 80+% the deeps.
I tank and heal...thats 90% of my game play.
and I hate the crap they have done in this last expansion.
trying to tab target to keep agro, listening to the deeps shouting Fing tank can't hold agro.
Healing you hope the mob goes down before you run out of mana. Listen to the shouting Fing healer can't heal.
yea and you wonder what is wrong?
and all the time the great deeps base just stands and whines.
expanding base? believe what you want but don't take bliz as some god that can do no wrong.
They WILL tell you what they want you to believe.
