2. People dislike the layout. Wowhead and Wowheadnews are like night and day, they look totally different, and it's possible that some people just can't put up with how the news site looks. Unlikely, I agree, but it's possible
Just by looking at the comments section, I can see how it might be off-putting. The layout is hard on my eyes, and it's straining to read the comments.
That's pretty much it for me. I honestly don't like the layout at all, and I can't quite figure out why. It's basically the same color scheme, but it just seems... off, to my eyes. It's almost straining to read, so I don't really bother with it anymore. Which is a shame, because I did like to keep up with things.
Now, I just did some research, based on Funden's post up there. When I check the News, it's from the front page's pulldown menu, or from the popup menu under 'Forums' at the top of whatever page I'm on. Both of those lead straight to the new separate News site. Then I tried clicking on one of the blog post links from the General forum main page. I figured it would lead over to the post on Wowheadnews. I was wrong. It leads to the blog post on the old, familiar, non-eyestraining layout.
Maybe I'm not the only one who didn't realize this and had been avoiding it due to not being able to deal with reading on the new News layout?
I really hope all that made sense, communicating stuff like this isn't my forte...

Why would somebody be reading an auxiliary site to Wowhead, which was only announced on the forums/frontpage, instead of being on the forums which have been around for a few years? Why would they make a site for nobody to read/use?
To keep track of posts easier. Comments will come from the forums most often, as they always have.
Wait, you have blogs? Where?
Never mind I just found it. Never even thougth to look up top. I'm just so used to forums I didn't even think this would have blogs. My bad.
You see all the topics marked with blue books? Those are blogs =P

A) I love your icon and username combo, it pretty much made my day.
B) Thanks for this feedback, there is a lot to process about people not liking the layout--so while I haven't read all of it, I'm going to make sure the staff and I sit down and read this all over on Monday and brainstorm a good solution if one can be made. We don't want to remove the new layout, that would make no sense from our perspective, but there has to be a way for us to meet you halfway without compromising our efforts either.

AP testing made my parents decide to banish me from WoW. No WoW means that there isn't any point in me replying to guides for content which I cannot currently experience.
However, I actually like the new layout; it's somewhat flashy, but I like that sort of thing. =)

I think what threw me the most is the light colored border to a darker color post. It's almost opposite of the forum color scheme. Maybe a slight color change to the post section could solve some of your woes.

I do hope you also got the reference in the first line of my sig. If not, you have some reading to do, young lady.

I'm glad it made sense. =) OK, so I just took a good look at the differences in the pages side by side (thank you, Windows 7), and I think I pinpointed what's giving me the trouble. It's the way the posts are separated. On the standard wowhead layout, there's rounded edges and a very, very small gap in between posts. On the new News layout, it's a very drastic change between posts, with a larger gap. I think it's the light gray - DARK GRAY - light gray thing that's putting me off. It's also reversed, comments on the standard have a light gray background, the News comments have the dark gray. I think that's the killer, for me. I'm finding the dark gray harder to read on than the light gray.

Honestly those ugly Blizzard quote box things hurt my eyes and make me want to punch children. As such I get news updates elsewhere.

I prefer the Wowhead design to most every site I've ever visited. I've even used this site for reports in web design class. I wouldn't say the other layout/design is bad, but it's hard to teach old dogs new tricks. I come to Wowhead to be on Wowhead, not to jump all over the ZAM network.

Sorry about my previous snide remark, I really didn't know you were talking about News/Blogs as separate from blog posts on the forums etc.
I wasn't even aware of such things. I have the forums bookmarked, and isn't every piece of news available on the forum? Why would I need to go to a News site for anything?
BTW: Comment that fell on deaf ears:
http://www.wowheadnews.com/blog=176361.4/cataclysm-reputations-guide-vendors-rewards-and-more#comments
Not that it was easy to find, because you've removed the sticky from the Cata guide. Also, the new format for the guide means that it didn't finish loading after a full minute!
Cheers.

In general, we don't get notifications and that blog is pretty old--I never saw your comment. Email me at asheliaATwowhead.com if you want to talk further about guides and how we organize them.

I didn't read through all of the above, so pardon if this has been said before.
Whenever I happen by that layout, I think "Whoops, this isn't Wowhead" and close the window pane pretty much without reading anything. So you get a hit from me, but no comments.

Could it be the actual content within the blogs?
The Thrall blog and the Legendary Staff one have ~45 comments in them, about average for the blogs (according to your figures).
However, the more tedious stuff (hotfixes) have gotten practically no comments, probably because people don't really care about them.
