Of all the servers to go to, Tich was a bad choice, and will make his defense very hard.

Athene responds.
And I need to make a Youtube clip on this sometime too.
that's pretty funny
The best (ironic) bit is that he's coming back in 'support', just as everybody is leaving in 'support'.

Gee, some of these posts are plain silly.
Yes, yes they are...but...
Blizzard have very little control over the technical capabilities of their servers.
So they have to revert to controlling the players.
You did NOT just say THAT. Seriously?
Swifty is a sponsored player, which it totally cool, but I'd think that Blizz would want to reconsider a ban in which the player is sponsored by a company that enhances their game (even though it competes against their own allegedly inferior products...), gives fantastic player advice, and posts regular videos that get over 500k hits every week consistently on YouTube. Exactly HOW MUCH MORE FREE ADVERTISING could they possibly want? The sponsor (Razer) has a bit of a stake in this too, so I'd think something will be worked out.
Maybe....a server upgrade. Herp derp. -_-

Swifty being sponsored is a poor excuse, and Blizzard won't care. Swifty active or not, his 'followers' will likely continue to pay their subscription fees.
So you think a server upgrade will fix player collision? Nope. No servers have that capability. And there is a very high probability that Blizzard operate the best hardware available to them.

Good riddance.
Zybak: Spam chat so we can actually crash the server
Swifty: WOW. It's going to be laggy, I can tell
Unknown: We need to go down to a server like argent dawn or moonguard where goldshire is already crowded
...
Swifty: I'm ready to see the madness.
Swifty: I can't move! I can't move!
Yeah, sounds like he was working really hard to stop people from crashing the server. Zybak may have been the one who instigated it, but Swifty was a) the one who organised the event and b) the one with the power to stop it. Had he cut the stream right there and then, I'm fairly sure it would have had an impact on the server spam.
Maybe....a server upgrade. Herp derp. -_-
Which would do a fat load of good if the software can't keep up anyway.

I enjoyed the ice cream analogy. Here's a better one.
MacDonalds have a famous person eat ice cream. 600 kids turn up, and their ice cream machine breaks. Do they ban the famous person?
Err, no.

ban the fanboys pure and simple

Err, no.
That one only works if the customers operate the ice cream machine themselves...and carry on to another 2 mcdonalds to break their machines as well. Analogy fail sorry.
Let's make it...
A slightly noteworthy person convinces 5000 people to go to a bar chain that has the coin operated jukebox things at each table. They all spam the jukebox nodes til they fry and run every other paying customer off as well as exceeding the fire hazard limit of the building causing the police and fire dept to come shut the place down...they then caravan to another bar of the same chain and repeat the mayhem...and then another...
Does the bar chain owners go after the noteworthy person who incited this or just brush it off? Or at the very least BAN him from using their bar?
No business owner would just brush something like that off.

People going back and forth warping analogies to fit with their own view isn't going to do much.

I guess he's now unbanned.

Although, I'm not a huge fan of Swifty, he does give good tips and doesn't deserve to be banned. Anyway, I have done my share of crashing servers and messing with them (like getting some of my friends on their warlocks and unleashing a horde of enslaved infernals through shat in BC). If I can get away without consequence when they know it was me, then why should he?

eh I still left him room to say "but it wasn't the famous person it was all the people following them" :)
To that I say "ban the followers butts too they knew what they were doing and that it was wrong"
Sadly it looks like blizz is caving...which worries me because that means the horde of little monsters that have been crashing darkspear all day are getting what they want and making precedent :(

Or just shows that it's not Swifty's fault after all ;)

Or just shows that Blizz caved to Razer when they tried to get their money sink unbanned. I would die laughing if Blizz sues Razer for the additional wages spent fixing the mess :)
Edit: Or this, this is one from the o-board thread cracked me up
Lets be honest. Blizz didnt unban him because of all the fanboy riots. They just didnt want Athene to come back.
Edit2: I must say, this whole fiasco really has me feeling unfriendly toward Razer, I think they need to do a better job policing their employee and watching what's going on with events they are sponsoring. I don't think I'll be considering any Razer products in the near future after this.

I still don't agree with you Sweetscot, that Swifty is in the wrong here. But then that's just me :)

That's ok :)
I still think he is wrong, but definitely not alone in wrongness, but I'm happy to agree to disagree.

I honestly don't know enough to care either way, especially since I'm fairly sure I'm just hearing the biased version from both sides.
