For all the armchair experts who think that spanking = serious psychological issues in future, I would like to point out firstly that that spanking in MyTie's sense is completely different from beating your kid up in the Judge video, and that people these days are growing up today with more diagnosed psychological issues than ever before. I do agree with the argument on the first page - there is a negative correlation between spanking and psychological issues in kids. I don't believe that it's causation, but it does suggest that whatever people are replacing spanking with, it's not helping much.
I posted a link to a literature review of all the actual evidence collected by researchers (I'm actually studying psychology) and thus I'm an armchair expert. You agree with a claim that's unsubstantiated by any evidence and thus... you're what?
I can get out my textbooks and post all the individual studies one by one with a commentary if you like.

I am freshman in college. I cannot speak as a parent (at least, I think I am not one:P), but as the guy, who just left the parents house. My parents never physically hurt intentionally (if they threw me something heavy and I caught it with my head, it is not their fault), they just knew the ways to get the message without beating me up. Three things I can remember that they used the most:
1. Computer ban.
2. Internet ban (different is that I can play games, but no Internet)
3. Party ban (this kicked in High school, though, and was used most in last 3-4 years)
If you have to beat the kid, you don't know him/her well enough, to punish through the weak spots...
In my house we operate on this rule: removal of privileges is not punishment. Therefore, when a child acts in a negative fashion, they lose their privileges because they obviously aren't earning them, but they are also punished for the negative action.

Would you consider a fine a punishment?

What happened was pretty sad, but it's the girl's fault she waited so long to post it.
Is it really her "fault?" Think about it.

you are a little bit slow, so I'll fill in the gaps for ya....
Step 1: Girl posts video on the internet on the night the events happened.
Step 2: Father gets enraged dealing 500% more damage, and causes a horrible wipe of bloody proportions on the wife and daughter.
Step 3: Daughter is dead.
that sounds like a horrible plan, in fact that plan sucks.
Now lets review plan B:
Step 1: wait until you no longer live under the same roof as that monster, when you finnaly have your own job to support yourself on your own 2 feet without depending on that creep.
Step 2: THEN you post the video, now that you dont live under the same roof as the monster, you no longer have to fear any retribution from him.
Step 3: profit as the whole world sees the monster for what he is.
now this sounds like a more reasonable plan, one that doesn't involve a nasty case of death.

There's still the issue of statue of limitations though; think there is one on assault.

Honestly, considering he's probably screwed for life...

Of course; his reputation and the like, but if the statue of limitations did go past, then no, he couldn't be charged for it, same as if there is more then 5 years between a rape happening and it being reported.

Has nothing to do with it. Neither major political party runs on a pro-beating-the-s***-out-of-your-kids ticket.

This thread is now about limited statues and inflicting incorporeal punishment.
To be fair, I asked around before I made the first incorporeal joke. I was all "Hey Google, tell me about 'Corporeal Punishment," and Google was all "Don't you mean 'Corporal Punishment"? And I was all, "That's what I said." Then we both asked Dictionary.com, and he was all "I have no idea what you guys are talking about." So, you know, I did check to see if it was a regional thing before being a smart alack.
I missed the statues, though.
