Why do people...

Why do people usually leave guilds without saying anything? I think it's very rude and selfish. Is it that hard to say "Sorry guys, I'm leaving the guild because..."?
Do YOU give notice before leaving a guild? Share your stories. Here's mine:
Randomguy joins the guild.
Me: "Welcome! :D"
GL: "Welcome mate!"
Randomguy left the guild.
True story. He probably saw that there were only 7-8 members online and thought the guild sucked.

Because if they admit why they are leaving, it will probably cause drama, and some people just want to leave quietly.

I agree with Adamsm, Also, saying something along the lines of "I'm leaving now because I didn't get to raid enough" makes you sound egotistical, and maybe like you're trying to get someone to stop you, or make a big fuss and get others to leave too.
As far as I recall, I've left one guild in my time. And I stopped long enough to say, thanks, it's been fun, I hope you'll have fun, good luck, though I was being more polite than honest.

But if that person made an app to join and left, or was contacted before hand and said he would like to join then yeah, rude.He said "lf guild" in trade chat and one of our officers whispered him and talked about our guild. He said he was interested, joined and left after 5 seconds.

I think it all depends on why people leave. I recently left one without saying a word after the social guild master said that he didn't make his guild for raiders and he didn't want them in it. Exit the core raiding group en masse, some without saying a word.

this is why wow should have the same policy regarding guilds as Lineage II
On Lineage II if you leave a guild you can't join another guild for 7 days (and the one you left can't recruit another player for 24 hours)
On the other hand if u're kicked from a guild, then the player can't join a guild for 24 hours, and the guild can't recruit another player for 24 hours.
There has to be some sort of penalty to prevent guild-hopping. Today there is a sorta penalty in that you lose all rep adquired with a guild if you leave (rep that is slow to gain back) but considering the guild rewards aren't as game-breaking as we tought when cata was in development, then ye, most people don't care about that (they're pets, tabards, mounts, and heirlooms, hardly VITAL items)

I rerolled on a new realm and got invited to a level 25 guild within a few minutes of doing my first quest. My first message in /g was "Thanks for the invite. I'm only here to leech perks. I'll probably leave at 85." The reply? "Cool."

Well, if it's already a level 25 guild, they only gain from you being there, unless you pop capped the guild. Granted, the bank gains and whatnot are minuscule, but having a dozen or more low-levels grinding through to 85 fills the coffers more than 25 85s who idle in town all day.

I prefer forum posts if the guild in question has a forum, as I find it easier to describe why I'm leaving if I can do so in a long post where people cannot interrupt me. However, I've only ever been in guilds for 6+ months, and those guilds have typically been serious guilds - it's very different if you're in a leveling type of guild.

Yep, and I think that's why no one really minded. I'm leeching the guild perks and they're leeching my gold from the guild benefits. Symbiosis and stuff.
Edit: Learn something about spelling every day...

Left only 1 guild that was still alive without saying anything. That one I left because I was being completely ignored by most all players (and the 2-3 out of several hundred that didn't ignore me I still have contact with).
I doubt most of the rest even noticed I was gone.
They were trying to turn the guild into a hardcore raiding guild, I wasn't a hardcore raider who already had all the gear, so I wasn't worth hanging around with any longer (I was good enough to fill the guild bank so officers could get their guild repairs and stuff, while mere members were expected to pay inflated ah prices for items from the bank).

Reasons why I leave a guild without saying anything.
1: When I say why people lose there minds.
2: The guild is doing nothing, so I feel they don't need my reasons for lying about there guild.
3: My rogue has very good gear but I get invited to nothing.
4: If you don't tell me that the guild is a ERP guild I will troll your ERP Vents and leave with out telling.
5: So many others but don't fell like typing it all.

I'm more curious as to why you need some stranger to explain why he left? If someone joins the guild, stays for a couple of minutes and then leaves, he knows next to nothing about your guild, why are you interested in his input on your guild?
If someone joins and then leaves shortly after, I don't know the guy and don't care how he feels about anything. If a long standing member leaves, I make contact to get a feel for what went wrong, but with a new guy that just might not like the color of the tabard I don't care diddly - he apparently wasn't meant to function in my guild, so the guild is better off getting rid of him in a hurry.

It very much depends on the reason why I am leaving.
When I left a guild that I had been with for over a year to move to a higher level progression guild (BC era...went from a "Kara" guild to a Hyjal guild).....I first let my GM know why I was leaving, and then announced it in Guild chat, as well as sent messages to any of my friends that didn't log on during that time. In other words, I wanted to make sure and say my goodbye's to everyone since the move had no hard feelings attached to it.
In contrast, my most recent switch, which actually was a server transfer, not just a guild swap....I actually woke myself up at 5 am when I knew no one would be on to pull my toons out. This guild had become a cesspool of drama, and I did not want to be a part of it. When other members had left, the GM and officers would start talking crap about them, kicking their alts out, and sending whispers to them trying to start trouble. So I figured the best course of action was a quiet one, when I was the only one online.

To be frank, I can't leave any guild without saying any whether am in a raiding guild or social casual guild. I will clear out why am leaving for example, drama or to look for a guild that suit my needs like raiding guild, real life friends or just a casual to play anything I want.

We just had something like this happen. 25 man "progression minded" raiding guild. Had a chick come in on her mage a couple months ago. She's always in the raid, is taking loot, and we've actually been going back and running Firelands for her to get her Legendary since she came in with some parts already and was next up to get one.
Yesterday she left. Didn't say anything. Left and went back to her old guild.
I hate, HATE, people like that.
