I'll update the requested guides bit but be more patient with people. Real life is always going on around us.
To be clear: I acknowledged that he's not staring at the thread 24/7, but given that the site has recorded his presence, I was expecting updates. I check on everything I'm "in charge" of on the site every time I visit Wowhead - all my guides, any recent comments that may have received responses, and anything that has caused a change in reputation (up or down). Doing so means I stay on top of things that others expect me to be paying attention to, and overall benefits the site.
If real life keeps me from getting to Wowhead, then it will show that I haven't visited the site for x hours, and people can expect that anything that has been posted within that time frame won't have been responded to yet.
And I don't go to the Off-Topic forum. Just Wowhead Feedback & occasionally WoW General. I didn't look to see what exactly he had done on the site, only checked to see if he had been on or not.

Dear Hatman555,
I'm not trying to pick a fight here or say you're not doing your job. I'm saying that if that portion of the thread is to work, then it needs to be updated frequently.
Kinda sounds like you are. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you care so deeply about the guildes feature on wowhead.
See Asakawa's post. Im taking the weekend to do something crazy, and while yes, I am a nerd and can access wowhead from my phone, it's the the easiest thing to use for editing and moderating post. Another reason why Asakawa work well together, we both you wowhead a lot and know that it's ok to step into each others posts if something need to get done.
Long story short, don't worry, it will be updated.
Also, on a somewhat unrelated topic - will interviews become archived, once a new one comes out? Perhaps with togglers or something, so that folks can read through old guide writer interviews. The same thing too with the "tip of the post" - this especially might be useful to archive.
Yup the second post will have a history of posts in it by date.
Up for an interview? Maybe mid of next weeks once I can move my legs again.
Cheers,
Hat

This post is mine, that being said, ya not my number 1 priority on the site. Regardless of that, I'm usually very congnasnt of where I have posted and what I need to check.
As a log time user of the site, most of the people who know me on wowhead would probably say that I'm very active in anything I'm involved with. As a moderator of the site I have even more to do than you know.
Wowhead is part of my real life, I've made it a part of my life, because I love the site and it's members. If the rest of my life gets crazy, I rely on the other moderters to help me out, but it will be a very strange day when I don't visit wowhead and post something. Should probably call the local hospitals then :-p
And I don't go to the Off-Topic forum. Just Wowhead Feedback & occasionally WoW General. I didn't look to see what exactly he had done on the site, only checked to see if he had been on or not.
I encourage you to broaden your habits then. The off topic community has many great people from many different walks of life. The conversations in there can get pretty intense, but also very fun.
Cheers,
Hat

Monday morning Guide question:
I'll post one every Monday on a different topic.
Today: Which guide do you find yourself using most?
I have to say that I use mine more than any other:
Gearing up once you hit 85!
But that may be because I don't know of some really great guides out there. So maybe the ones you list will expand my guide horizons.
Cheers.

Why 'lol'. I'm serious and looking for other guides. I have tons of level 85 alts and looking to gear them all the time. That's why I use my guide, and that's why I wrote it. Just get off my back will you.
Cheers.

I think the Monday question of the week is a cool idea.
I think asking a question to get people to talk about guides they like, use lots and maybe others aren't aware of is a
very
cool idea.
This being a thread specifically for guide-writers though, doesn't it defy the object to simply name your own guide? If everyone did that then couldn't the question simply be
what guide did you write?
.
We're amongst friends and peers here. We don't need to promote our work to each other, we can talk about what we've seen others do that's impressed us, surely? What we respect or aspire to.
I don't mean to get on your back so apologies for that, it just struck me as slightly absurd.
Personally I don't play WoW any more so I'll just name Cordana's
Glow Chart Guide
. The amount of work they put into it is just staggering, it's such an amazing resource!

My two favorite guides:
Littlest Pet Shop
and
Mountain O Mounts.

SquireKel
For reference when grinding achievements on my main:
A Guide to the Molten Front and Respective Quests
and
Glory of the Cataclysm Hero Guide!
by
Runawaynow
and
pyrannor2012
, respectively.
When working on two of my leveling alts:
Druid leveling guide
and
Stealth and You: A Guide to Leveling Your Rogue
, by
lissanna
and
Capnboomkin
, respectively.
And of course, when working on a new guide or editing an old one,
my
Guide Writing for Dummies
or
asakawa's
Undisplayed BBCode
forum thread (not a guide, technically, but very helpful nevertheless).
There are a lot of really good achievement and boss fight guides out there as well, from what I've seen, but since I've already obtained the achievements found within them, I don't refer to the guides. I won't list them all here, since I think I've already listed too many (but really, it depends on what you need a guide for, and having a variety of playing purposes means multiple guides that are used often!).
Edit: For anyone who's been keeping track, the images section is now complete in the
Guide Writing for Dummies
guide - check out the complete guide and let me know what you think!

Thanks for the ideas. I'll definitely check out some of those guides. I'm not a Pet or Mount collector but may become one after looking at those guide :)
Anyone else with Guides they look at a lot?
BTW: Why isn't this thread a sticky?
Cheers.

Today: Which guide do you find yourself using most?
Master Shapeshifters: A Guide to Character Disguises
- I love this guide, its really fun to find items in the game and transform yourself. This guide pretty much lists them all. I have many of them in my bags, and am always looking for more. Perc, but together a very nice looking guide too, that should be a great start for most guide writers.
General Update
:
I've gone through the comments and updated the main page with the list of requested, and now completed guides.

The one about an Interviews thread? I read it. I like the sound of it.

Something that bothers me with the guide system, but I'm not sure if or how it could be remedied, is the disconnect between the voting and comment sections, and the lack of guide writers revisiting their published guides. These concerns are connected, although they may not seem it initially.
To elaborate, it seems like people vote on a guide without giving reason for it. I don't think it's necessary to explain giving a rating of say, 3 stars or higher, but voting one or two stars clearly denotes that there's something missing or wrong about the guide that the author may not be aware of. Yet, there's no prompting to give any suggestions or feedback, so people can vote & bolt, so to speak.
A big concern about trying to implement something like this is that voters would be less likely to give a poor rating because of the additional work that would be asked of them, and ratings would become skewed. Small comments, similar to the old "vote-to-delete" system, could greatly help out a guide writer in fixing it.
Another suggestion on the same issue would be to either prompt users who gave a low star rating to revisit a guide after significant revisions have been made to it. This would provide them with the opportunity to look back through the edited guide and potentially change their rating or give additional feedback.
While it may not be possible or advised to integrate something into the guide system that directs itself at specific players, in large part because of the skewed ratings that would likely result from users who are trying to avoid this component, it does seem necessary to acknowledge that some guides undergo heavy revision after being approved and receiving their first few votes.
Something that is less invasive to individual users is a "revised" icon that could bring a guide back up to the top of the list. It would appear next to the guide name, much like the "new" icon that shows up for guides that have been approved of but have not yet received five votes. These guides could be listed under any "new" guides. In this way, all users, not just those who saw the guide when it was originally submitted would be able to look at the guide, and hopefully increase its star rating. Additionally, it would encourage guide writers to return to completed guides and continue to work on them (utilizing the feedback from others), rather than abandoning them.
Anyway, enough from me on the matter - what do you all think?

I support this idea 100%. I compare it to the way Wowinterface bumps updated add-ons back to the top of their "new and updated" list on the home page. I think it would help increase the quality of guides here overall.

asakawa
Some authors would abuse this to keep their guide bumped constantly.

If it's a good guide, the community will decide. Maybe only add "updated" tags to the guides above 3 stars? If the author keeps bumping a so-so guide, the community will penalize the author. At least, I know I would.

Oh absolutely, hence my hesitation with suggesting anything. I did say "substantial" updates in order to trigger the notifications or "revised" tag, but it would be difficult to put a character limit on what that would entail.
In an effort to avoid abuse of bumps though, it could be at the moderators' discretion to decide if a guide has been revised enough from its previous state to prompt another go at the top of the list.
Post by
asakawa
Moderators can't see a guide's edit history so we're no more likely to know how substantial changes are than anyone. Also, I'm not sure how happy I'd be about guides that receive updates getting put into our queue for attention along with everything else unless it's really necessary... just in terms of taking up more of the time we have to give as volunteers.
