We stuck with 25-man in our guild... frankly, we feel 10-man is easier, less challenging and less prestigious when you achieve a kill.
No matter how balanced they make 10 and 25-man raids, there is always going to be the fact that it's a lot easier to have 10 completely focused, A-game players with stable internet connections and reliability. It's simply harder to do that with 25-people.

25man are a nightmare to get the people at time and dont get problem with efficiency in play.
I reach 80 in Ulduar, I got all the gear that I can farming heroics and I play well my hunter, but never has raid before.
I begin raiding because I was online while the "core" guys dont appear.
For a 25man roster we had have a roster of at least 35/40 guys.
My guild have: 4/8HC group, other with 2/8HC (mine) and other with 8/8N (two weeks ago)
if we have 30 guys, why dont make a 25man? simple: time
group 1: play weekend 10/12hs total
group 2: play friday and monday 5hs total
group 3: play in weekdays about 8hs total.
RBG group: 1800+ (with guys from raid group and pure pvp guys) when they match.
so, we cant match same day all togheter to do DS, so we make groups that enable us to enjoy the game

I think the real reason that they would phase them out is simple. Participation in 25m raids is so small that it's like catering a quarter of each expansion to 10-20 of the 5000+ guilds out there. To be honest, I really don't see the reason for bothering with ANY of the raids until they level out the iLvL field. I mean c'mon, 20 minutes after MoP comes out everyone is going to have better gear than the super elite guilds anyway, so why bother?

Well if there is no tier/iLevel difference between 10/25 then it will probably phase out...just like 40man raids.
Personally I never understood the "25"man make up.
Most decent size guilds have two 10 man raiding rosters.
Why they do not just follow the simple symmetry of 10 into 20, kind of mind boggles me.
Can't tell you how many times my guild stalled in running a 25man raid because of those last few.
I sure other guilds and pugs suffered the same fate.
It would be nice if MoP went 10/20 guild raid with higher tier level for 20man and leaving LFR at 25man thus giving 3 raiding levels/tiers per each raid dungeon. Plus heroics for each one...yes even LFR and players would have a smorgasbord of opportunities to satisfy their raiding palate.

What did I miss? Did Blizz make an announcement regarding plans for 25-man raids?

Far as I know they haven't; another Doomsayer.

How about having 40 man and 10 man instead of the current 25 and 10 man, and have the 40 man drop the same ilvl gear apart from maybe 3 or 4 special items half a tier above the 10 man drops (maybe trinkets or something)? That way everyone gets the nice 10 man stuff, and the true world class guilds have an additional layer of challenge in organising the 40 mans.

This occurs during any expansion. People don't simply stop raiding and acquiring gear because one day a new expansion will come out and replace that gear within a couple levels. They get that gear and work on doing it all over again with new content.

I was just arguing about how difficult it is to maintain a 25-man... let alone a 40.
I do recall running 40-man's and I do remember having fun, however, I also remember the nightmare it was coordinating that many.

Players shouldn't need extra incentives to do 25 mans. If players really want to do 25 mans, and they remain in game, they will do them. There are guilds left on my server who do 25 mans, because they enjoy them. I do 10 mans because I prefer them. (No I will not get into the 10 vs 25 balance debate. Yes there are fights significantly easier on 10 man; such as Yorsahj heroic; and those easier on 25 man; such as Hagara heroic. They will never be perfectly balanced, anecdotal evidence goes both ways, just leave it.) As long as there is an option to do 25 mans, people will still do them.
