After the destruction of Dalaran, why did he leave for Kalimdor for a while? I don't think he went there just to "aid" Illidan to find the Skull of Gul'dan.

As far as I can remember, it was. He was sent there by the Lich King to find and persued Illidan to consume the Skull of Gul'dan, thereby giving him the power to destroy one of the Legion's strongest commanders and weaken the demons for the mortal races to defeat so that he would be free of their control.

The Scourge was also under the command of the Legion, and if Archimonde says 'Jump' you jump or else he squashes you.

After Archimonde was summoned Arthas, Kel'thuzad and even the Lich King were pretty much tossed aside and continued their own plots alone.
Control of the Scourge was given to Tichondrius (assuming Archimonde was able to supersede Ner'zhul) so getting rid of him was a priority, not only to stop the legion but also to regain control of the scourge.

Dreadlords were the jailors of the Lich King; they were in control of him, which is why Arthas and KJ set up Tich to die at the hands of Illidan. But the Scourge was ordered to destroy the World Tree, so yes it makes sense Arthas went with the rest of the Scourge forces.

Arthas was obviously sent to sabotage the Legion's invasion of Kalimdor by destroying Tichondrius through Illidan Stormrage who the Lich King 'might' have sensed to have a weak spot for power. Thus Illidan's so called lust for power was exploited by Arthas in their encounter... wait; why am I telling the story everyone knows this. Anyway, obviously the Lich King whispered to Arthas about the Demon Hunter Illidan; otherwise he wouldn't have gone to Kalimdor; he hasn't even heard of Illidan so why go there without a driving force in your head. Another thing was that Tichondrius served as the replacement of the Lich King; however, there isn't much clarity if he was able to control the entire undead scourge; though, I personally think the undead never really left Ner'zhul's control. Plus, Arthas has a bigger thirst for power than a 25K year old Eredar.

Since the Dreadlords were the Lich King's jailer, and Mel'ganis was leading the Scourge army in Stratholme.....I'd say yes. Also you know, the whole Dreadlords created the Necromancy in the first place and taught it to the rest of the Legion.
