Hey. Well, I'm a paladin and I have mining and engineering. Currently level 83. My engineering is 486. Should I drop engineering and get blacksmithing? I understand I'd have to farm alot of ore ( or buy it ), but I have epic flying, so it wouldn't be too bad.

It depends. Why do you want blacksmithing? Are there crafted items that you're looking for from the profession, or to use as a money-making profession, etc? Once we (the community) know why you're asking about switching, our advice tends to be better (more specific, tailored to your situation).

My engineering is actually 386. And I want to mainly PvP with her, but I also might want to tank ten man raids and stuff.

well, you might wanna consider before dropping it (I wouldn't), at such a low level you don't have access to what makes engineering really fun:
-3 (wormhole+2 for each spec) transporters around the world
-mobile bank, repair and mailbox,
-nitro boosts (paired with HoF) so most of the time you can reliably blow yourself up,
-a parachute (kickass in bg, useful in some raids, handy in the world),
-synapse springs so you can get a boosts for healing/armor/dps (macro it with Divine protection when tanking, works great since both are on the same cd, and are both mitigation, so they don't diminish each other, as ret you probably have an on-use trinket to go with wings, but you could use it with the start of GoaK, or force a defensive cd out of the target; as holy macro it with plea for better mana return or bursthealing)
Yes, it's not that useful in rateds since you can only use the glove tinkers, but if you manage to have bursts windows it beats the static bonuses of other professions, which gets wasted when you're cc'd, out of range/los etc.
BS is great too, but given that you reach ctc-cap as prot pretty easy those 2 sockets are not that important as at the start of the expansion, and as ret downtime means static bonuses get wasted, so engineering pulls ahead IF you can use the CD wisely)
The bad about engineering is that synapse springs cannot be used with trinkets (it put's them on a 10 sec cd so even if you do a cancelaura you must wait); the failures on the belt tinkers sometimes make you cry; and last but not least sucks for money making, but these cons can be countered by getting used when to pop springs, or having alts with more profitable professions.
If you wanna pick up BS for min-maxing after some heavy farming drop mining and level it on an alt, but you might wanna wait for MoP to hit first, you will be going some good money with gathering proffs.
