Yes we do, put me in a room with a bunch of nerds and they won't even have the guts to talk to me.
Orly.

Put me and a bunch of nerds in the same room with chicks. Who's going to get approached first?
No, but they will have the guts to AIM you constantly as you attempt to understand a keyboard.
And obviously, the chicks will go to whoever has food, or they think might have food. That is what baby birds generally do.

I can assure you I am far more alluring than food.
I doubt that.
I have seen some pretty sexy food.

A tuna sandwich is delicious as heck, far above and beyond McDonalds. I don't understand what this has to do with the reasoning behind marriage, but I am glad we agree on something.

1) In regards to the photographer. A "standard" wedding package is much different that photographing almost any other event. For a most generic parties, a customer would want a camera man to walk around taking candid shots, and to make sure they got a good angle for any speeches or events happening during the party. For a wedding, they are required to do all of that, plus take more professional photos of the bride and groom, and the wedding party, as well as cover the ceremony. Generally, you're talking about them going to the ceremony ahead of time, setting up, taking photos, then having photo shoot sessions which may or may not requite lighting and/or backdrops to be set up. then, normally, the photographer has to travel to the location of the reception and do all of the normal work he would for a generic party.
Then, when he delivers the photos, there's a huge difference as well. Generally, for a regular party, he'd deliver prints- might put them in a photo album but most likely not- and a digital copy of the photos. For a wedding, he'd definitely need to make an album, and a very nice one, as well as deliver the prints. In addition, they generally do a full set of prints of the professional wedding party photos in wallet sizes, 5 X 7", 11 X 13", etc.
So if the person has to spend several extra hours working, has to travel between the ceremony and the reception, has to spend time professionally touching up the wedding party photos (which is a process you don't have to do with candid pics, really), has to either have purchased or farmed the printing out to someone who has a wide format photo-quality printer that can handle sheets larger than 8.5 X 11," and over all is doing a lot more work and using a lot more equipment, then that creates the extra cost.
2) In terms of why people get married at all- Some people believe that god needs to bless their life together, some people on a sentimental level want to make a formal commitment to their partner, some people want to make sure that all the legal mechanisms are in place to protect their property and children- some times all three. There are a lot of reasons for actual marriage- some practical and some sentimental, but they're all totally understandable.
3) Why people spend so much money getting married?
No freaking idea. It's ridiculous. I am planning a wedding right now, and every time I say "But this is so much less expensive," I get glared at like a killed a kitten. Granted, the people glaring are offering to pay the difference between an economical wedding and "the wedding I dream of," so it's not like they're expecting more out of me. But it seems like such a waste of money that could be spent on better things, regardless of whose money it is.
I think partially it's tradition- some people feel like the fancy party and the crazy dress are part of what makes a wedding special. Some people like to show off. Some people feel obligated to hit a certain level or be embarrassed. Some are just really financially well off, and they can afford to do it. In my case, his family wants a fancy wedding. But they're leaving it up to me (because he only cares that the food is good and that afterwards he gets to keep me). I am looking for something that's either worth the expense from a cool/interesting point of view (like the aquarium) or am going much simpler than people think.

It must be a huge burden, to be constantly attacked by females, intimidating to nerds and so interesting that people harass you for all manner of details of your existence. Does it make it hard for you to deal with the rest of society? Like- do you find yourself feeling pressured by all of the admiration and physical advances?
EDIT: Maybe you could find a support group, or something to help?

No...
Just no. McDonalds is unhealthy man, I don't care if you're trolling me or not don't eat that @#$%. Not just is it unhealthy but have you seen how the 'chefs' handle your food? They treat food like it's a business and not an essential part of life.
Making your own food is better, you obviously want to take care of yourself. McDonalds doesn't give a #$%^ about your health.
Or buy some Tuna or chicken fillet. Make some tuna/chicken/mayonnaise sandwiches.
I'm srs.
Or, y'know, I can keep getting McDonalds because it tastes good, and I like it, and it is more affordable than buying ingredients and cooking my own food.
And no, I really don't give a damn about my health. I work a dangerous job where I can easily be hit by vehicles. Doing it is causing me to ware out my arms and legs at an abnormally fast pace. I also don't have health insurance, nor have I been to a hospital or doctor for my own sake in almost ten years.
Why do I do it all? Because I don't really give to !@#$s. I decided a long time ago I don't want to live forever, and especially not just for myself. So I do a job like mine, and make a few dollars over minimum wage, so that I can keep my electricity and internet and keep eating McDonalds, and love my life while it lasts.

Well, I think InternetSwag is a good representation of humans. We personally place importance on our own things. I place importance on morality and responsibility. Others place importance on the gain of knowledge, or on emotion and feeling. Iswag places importance on physical appearance, and sexual attraction. What makes him wrong? I mean, we like to tongue in cheek treat him sarcastically, but really, if that is what he sees as important, you have no measure to tell him he is incorrect.
