I'm concerned, somewhat. Take
my Hunter
, for example. Level 24, and I still haven't left Loch Modan - still skinning away! I'm not even close to using Medium Leather yet, so I'm stuck here for eternity. So I will be 24 when I start the next zone - and probably won't leave until after 30. Am I destined to do grey quests and stay in zones for hours after they've done, skinning my life away, forever*?
*Or, at least until 80.

It depends. Your skinning needs to catch up to your level, in a sense, so that they match better. After that, it will depend on whether you're killing things that can be skinned while you level, helping your skinning level as well. If you're trying to level LW at the same time though - yes, you'll always be playing catch-up.

Yes, I'm Skinning and LW.
What I'm getting at is that even when I've done every quest in the zone, skinning a sh*t ton of mobs, I need to stay for even longer to get my LW up to speed, ready for the next zone!

I would suggest you to get to 60 asap, then spend the next couple of days grinding your professions to catch up with your level, first because you will be able to fly around and second, once you reach outlands it's easier to keep your professions on par with your current level. And it continues to do so through northrend, once you reach cata zones, you will have to grind a lot there, but its cool as you can do it while you wait for dungeons.
Also you're in Loch Modan so you're alliance, you fail at life, go reroll horde.

Hello,
Of all gathering professions, Skinning is probably the hardest to level. Firstly It requires you to kill mobs and secondly these mobs have to be skinnable. Quests in most zones will not always allow you to do that so you'll end up farming
a lot
passed the zone level requirements (as you find out).
Now if you intend to level both skinning and LW, this is even harder because the materials gathered rarely match the quantities required by the crafting profession. More farming will be needed.
Like you on my hunter and 1st character I spent a long time trying to level both professions in an even fashion until I eventually gave up.
You're much better off levelling your character and picking up 2 gathering professions until you reach max level. Mining is a safe bet because a lot of crafting professions use it (JC, BS, ENG): sell all the mats you mine.
If you really intend on eventually picking up LW (replacing Mining), keep Skinning but only worry about levelling it once you are at higher level (level 60 or more) and have access to a flying mount.
