Log out in dungeon, log in at hearthstone location

It's been awhile since I've played, so hopefully I didn't miss an announcement or something about this. I've been running a couple of the BC heroic dungeons daily on my brother's account while he's on a trip (transmog gear). From what I remember, if you logged out for a long enough time inside of a dungeon, you'd log back in still in the dungeon, but back at the entrance. But for some reason, when I log in the next day I always end up at his hearthstone location in Stormwind City, leaving a long flight back to the dungeons. Should this be happening? If so, when was this change made? Is there anyway I can prevent the automatic hearthstone? It would be a pain to walk back through the whole dungeon again just to save a little time when I could be logging out to save even more time.

I had a similar annoyance, but with tol barad. I was in org, went in to tol barad, then, when finished, clicked the 'Leave Battleground' button. This sent me o bloodgulch in twilight highlands (his hearth). Age long flight back to orgrimmar (15 mins). Why did this happen?

This was indeed changed, though when and why I do not know. I agree that it's highly annoying, and that I can't think of any reason this might be warranted.

When you are in a dungeon with an ID (heroic, raid) when it resets, you will be taken to your hearthstone location. Can't swear that it was like that during BC or even Vanilla already, but at least since WotLK. To stay in the vicinity of the dungeon, either run out of the dungeon or, as several BC dungeons aren't exit-friendly, invite someone, then leave the group (don't kick the other character, just leave) and after 1min you will be teleported to the next graveyard.
Tol Barad and Wintergrasp behave similarly, leaving them via the minimap button does not take you to Org/SW/Dalaran by default, but actually your hearthstone location. It's not widely known as most people had their hearth in Dalaran during 3.X, and in 4.X most are in Org/SW.

You do know there is a short flight to Dragonmaw Port and a portal there that will take you back to Org, right?
Anyway, I love the "Leave Battleground" option. I also like that it stays after the battle is over. Making quick get-aways if I am surrounded by Alliance and don't see a way out alive.

This was changed because it was being exploited to get around the hearthstone CD. That exploit was one of the reasons that CD was eventually lowered.
What you think of is the "teleport out of a dungeon when you leave the group" trick, which used to take you to your hearthstone location, so people used Ragefire/Stockards to get back to Shattrath/Dalaran. Now this just takes you to the closest graveyard.
The OP described a different thing.
