World of Warcraft® Cataclysm MMO Gaming Mouse
Return to board index

Hey guys, I found a World of Warcraft® Cataclysm MMO Gaming Mouse at a pawn shop for 10 bucks and I bought it!
The only problem is the right click seems to be broken! I did notice there is an extensive software download for mapping out all the button functions, HOWEVER, I cannot seem to figure out how to reassign 'right click' from button 2 to button 5.
Button 5 is directly under right click and it would seem like an easy thing to get used to hitting it instead of the broken right click.
Please, OH please help me!
Oh, and thank you in advance :-D(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##sas148##DELIM##Removed the duplicate post. Don't worry about apologizing, it's a known bug right now. Also, to have a post deleted, click the 'Report' button in the post (top-right corner) to let us know.

First off, congrats on your find! I am by no means good with computers, but I thought I'd share my little bit of insight to see if it might help you. I had a Razer mouse that developed a double-clicking problem, which is apparently fairly common, and was able to google a fix that had me taking off the top of the mouse and greasing up the contacts with WD-40.
Sadly, I was never able to try it out because the screws that held the cover on were stripped and I couldn't get them out, but you may want to try googling a fix like that for your mouse to see if just getting the top off and cleaning under it would solve the problem. Best of luck! (c:

Thanks for your replies, and no, sadly its not something that could be fixed with a relatively simple solution...
The real question i still wait for an answer for is, can the software reassign button 5 to right click instead of button 2, and how?
The software seems to allow reassigning of all buttons, i simply cannot figure it out.

Does a more redundant and pointless comment even exist? Highly doubtful.
If my comment about this is made in error, please re-read Rystraye's comment and point out a solution, or helpful advice towards helping me out, as this thread only exists for that purpose.

Please people, I am simply asking for help here, trolling me is counter productive and only makes you look worse than your already making yourself look.
Thanks again in advance.

So....you insult someone here on the site, who makes a valid point, rather then doing the truly intelligent thing in this case, which would be to go to the actual tech support website for this device and see if they can help you.
Remember friend, people here on Wowhead are just like you; they only know so much, so if you want a true answer, go ask the pros.
Alternatively, go to your local Circuit City, Best Buy, Futureshop, the Source or even a Mom and Pa electronics store and bring it in with you to see what you can do. If there is no solution, bring your pawn ticket back to the pawn shop and get your money back.
Beyond that: Don't be a snarker, leave that to the professionals.

Well, jeez. I don't ever post on this forum and never once in a while put something that is borderline joking.
Considering retail the mouse is ~$75-$80 used and in working condition, yes $10 was a steal but you couldn't have expected it to be in the best of working conditions.
You could probably resell it for refurbishing for three times as much and profit, and get a professionally refurbished mouse for the profit you made on it.
Mocking me doesn't make you look good either. I was just stating, what you said, mere redundant fact, but no need to personally attack me. I'm on these forums everyday, posting as I please. People will post things that aren't helpful, so grab some humor, ignore it, and carry on.

Ok. I'm just break the ice here, AND give a solution.
Hi, my names Dave. I'm a mod on these forums, and I like playing kickball!
Now here is your solution.
X-Mouse
X-Mouse is probably the best 3rd party mouse software out there. It's super unintrusive, starts when you boot every time, sits on the active programs lists, and uses 512k system memory. I use it because my mouse is so old the drivers don't exist anymore. You can use it to remap any button on your mouse to do anything you want.
Enjoy. And also, Rystrave is quite loved on these forums, and probably has at least 6 useful posts geezzzzzzz
Cheers,

I lost count after 4, is it up to 6 already? xD
That X-Mouse thing is interesting and definitely worth looking into. The things kids come up with nowadays.

I'm in ur threadz, contributing and flaunting my post count...
In all seriousness though, if I saw something that cheap when it's normally not, I'm usually careful. For instance, when I purchased the laptop I am now using, it was a re-certified high-end gaming laptop with mixed reviews that was easily half the price of a brand-new one. Thus, what I did was I got an extended warranty on it and (because I bought the warranty I guess), I got lucky and got one with minimal issues.
The lesson: Make sure you have a backup plan when buying stuff cheaper than it usually is in this manner, especially with computers, computer hardware, and computer peripherals.

As helpful as everyone elses posts are...this guy is the only one who seemed to actually have the knowledge about the topic before posting. Thank you so much, I will give this a shot right now!

Well, this X-mouse button control doesnt seem to allow the changing of the button i need as it is not listed...
I have attempted to use logitech setpoint bundled with Uberoptions and unfortunately it seems theres a lot of XML editing that I am just... too unfamiliar with T_T
Also, my mouse and keyboard tabs dont show up....
Anyone offer some help as to expanding X-Mouse to enable certain buttons?
Or any similar programs to x-mouse?

The lesson: Make sure you have a backup plan when buying stuff cheaper than it usually is in this manner, especially with computers, computer hardware, and computer peripherals.
Also, for the record, there is NO lesson learned.
I saw something expensive at a cheap cost and bought it KNOWING there would be problems, I simply over-estimated a computer's ability to configure a button in case it doesnt work and needs to be reassigned. This mouse has like 50 buttons so I figured at 90% off of the market price even having only 1 button be broken is still a steal,
and you know what, Interest?
I am a big boy and I make my financial decisions for myself. You offer no lessons to me and your not being helpful.
Why do people post these pointless unhelpful comments? Perhaps simply to drive the spike further in? Bullying? Not sure, but I know I wouldnt go on someones help post and make pointless comments about irrelevant details in complete opposition to finding a solution.
Heres your lesson: Don't be pompous, don't be condescending for no reason other than to sound wise and boost your ego up higher and higher.
You obviously don't understand THE ACTUAL TOPIC AT HAND or your comment wouldnt even have wasted the space on here.
Please re-read this whole thread and post if you can offer a micron of help next time thanks in advance again.

Here the real lesson both interest and Rystraye both were being helpful maybe not in the way you wanted but they were not trolling, they were not being pompous your just complaining on the internet that your new toy broke. So here's a thing, it is called Google you can type something like mouse repair and the name of your town. And yes everyone who has commented has read the whole thread most likely it is that you do not sound like someone who we would want to help much.
Adamsm said it much better then me.
Have a nice day.

I would like to remind those above the troll line that
this is a thread with a specific problem
that was
posted by a real person asking
YOU
for help
.
PLEASE
only post here if you solidly believe the information you provide will help resolve this, and at the very least, perhaps push me in a helpful direction.
Your oppinions on my defensive comments in retaliation to your trolls and willful attempts to troll are not required as they are in no way related to finding a solution to the mouse button remapping quest I am on.
Also, seeing as most of you haven't even read the thread, or gave no indication that youve done so indicated by your comments completely lacking any constructive edge, I will quote some of the times I have specified the problem so you wont have to read this whole thing and sift through trolls and those less than that.

TL;DR I have a broken right click and am here solely for the purpose of finding out what I can do to remap it, and all your help is appreciated, I simply want to stick to the plot here and finish this.
Also, remember kids, please only post with information that helps guide this thread to a solution, all other personal inquiries and comments are irrelevant.

This thread clearly isn't going anywhere, those who could and tried to provide help already have and a solution hasn't been reached. My suggestion to you now DarkWestern is to go to the company
SteelSeries
and discuss this issue with their tech support. Typically even mentioning trolls is just an invite for more trolling.
I see you're passionate about this issue and I truly believe discussing the matter with the manufacturer is going to yield the best results for you.
Good luck.
