NOTE: This might looks like a question to Blizzard and in some reasons, it is, but before I post this on the official boards, I would like to hear what the other PvP players of Wowhead think of this debate. Hopefully, this will help me ( and the ones agreeing to my opinion ) to create a complete and intelligent question to submit to the official boards and hopefully, to its moderators.
I love PvPing as I level.
Usually, my leveling "routine" is:
1. Get BoAs for new alt.
2. Rush to level 12.
3. BGs 12-15
4. Dungeons and gathering professions 15-18
5. Bgs 18-20
6. Dungeons/gathering 20-23
and so on...
I usually hit honor and justice cap way before 85.
So, It always troubled why I can't buy 85 pvp gear before level 85.
The usual argument given by Blizzard is that it would be unfair for players who decided to decided to level by questing.
My question is...how is that unfair ?
1. Random BGs were never fair to begin with. You can join a BG in 83-85 quest gear or blue crafted pvp gear and get smashed by a full Cata player and that's fine ! I know I am not playing a FPS or a RTS but a MMO where gears matters. If a player spent more time on his toon than I did so far, it's perfectly understandable that he beats me. There is no bracket for fresh 85s so I can't see why it's unfair if a player hits 85 with half or full ruthless gear in his bags so no matter if buying pvp 85 gear before 85 is allowed or not, every BG will have players in blues, players in ruthless and players in cataclysmic.
2. This can be argued but unless you are very lucky or if you plan your leveling very carefully to match BG weekends, leveling trough pvp is slightly longer and troublesome than questing. So, a questing player should normally reach level cap before a pvp player and use that time to grind BGs/dungeons at a much more efficient pace.
3. Another argument is that you shouldn't be able to buy gear with honor earned in the "easier" brackets but the fact is, by level 69 or so, you have roughly 80% of all the habilities you will use at 85, the rest usually have no use for pvp ( ex: Misdirection ), are big CDs that can change the battle and are part of the skill cap but doesn't influence the core tactical mechanic of an average BG 1v1 fight ( ex: Bloodlust ) or are simply something to add in your damage rotation ( ex: Colossus Smash ). It's true that some abilities beyond 70 drastically the gameplay of a class ( Aspect of the Fox, Redirect, Demonic Circle, etc... ) but I do believe the brackets beyond 60 offers enough abilities to each classes to give a PvP gameplay as skillful as Wow can offer.
TLDR VERSION:
Why is it unfair to not be able to buy 85 pvp gear before 85.

Because I can easily cap honour 2-3 times between level 12 and level 85 and I would prefer to spend it on gear that will last me longer than 2-3 days, heirlooms or mounts.

I had a conversation on that topic with a few guildies yesterday and one of them brought up the argument that there is a lot of stuff you can buy with "leveling honor", let's list them up, shall we ?
- Mounts and Tabards
- Lower level pvp gear to use for leveling purposes ( ex: buying a brutal weapon certainly speeds up 70 to 74 leveling )
- Lower level pvp gear for transmog ( It's true that some older PvP gear looks awesome. S1 hunter, s2 warlock and s3 warrior comes to my mind )
- Heirlooms ( the "lower" tier of heirloom since most of them are badly itemized compared to their justice counterparts )

Another night, another conversation with guildies about this subject.
Another guildy came up with another argument: It would be unfair for PvErs since they can hardly farm as much Justice as we PvPers can farm honor during leveling.
As much as I hate comparing PvE and PvP gearing speed in any kind of scenario, I cannot honestly say that this argument is not without some kind of value.
I do not agree with it
but to keep this conversation running, anyone dungeons fanatic could tell us roughly how much Justice you can make between level 70 and level 85 if you do almost nothing but dungeons ?
@Entropyutd: Good idea. Perhaps a honor to gold conversation could also be considered since Questing rewards money.
