Honestly the best way to gear for higher level dungeons is lower level dungeons- especially as a DPS. Wrath dungeons are kind of a faceroll, especially since much of the time you're running with people who've done them on other toons. My recommendation is to start questing in Borean Tundra for greens (it might surprise you how quickly that lvl 70 gear gets outdated) and que for random dungeons with the LFD tool. The blues from the normal versions will be a good sight better than what you get questing, and much easier to get than the equivalent in BOE's and crafted gear, and questing helps kill time between dungeons.
I'd recommend keeping on that track all the way to 85, and then continuing to run dungeons for gear. There's only 6 weeks left until Cata, and I don't recommend investing in gear from the AH or crafters that will be outdated as soon as you hit Pandaria.
EDIT: The blue PvP gear can help boot your item level, but I think that's cheating unless the stats are actually better for PvE than whatever you hit 85 with :P

Use LFG and Q for BG - you'll be fine in your 70 epics for awhile, pick up whatever gear you can via dungeons as you level. When you hit 80 you will need Cata gear, I would go to a starting zone for Cata and quest for gear, buy Cata greens, blues in AH and crafted gear and jump into LFG and grab whatever gear you can. Otherwise just jam to 80 and quest in Cata for gear and jump in LFG as soon as you're comfortable. Grind the JP's while you level and then VP's - buy the PvP crafted gear and jump in LFR and before you know it your gear will be 380+ and then you replace it all with MoP greens :)
I had a level 60 MM hunter a week ago - w/out much work he is 75 and could be 80 if I did more. All in levelling gear at 60 when i parked him long ago on another realm. I have only done the quests in Nagrand for Nesingwary and RoB - otherwise all LFG w/no worries.
Hope this helped.
Edit: started w/level 60 gear but picked up dungeon drops and the Nesingwary quest reward and the RoB reward for gearing up.

Costs a fortune though, especially as the OP picks up a BC era character.
Like Elhonna said, just run dungeons, and before 85, do quests while you wait for the queue to pop. When you hit 85, check out
this guide
, which points you to quick and easy sources of gear. Slight mistake though that I noticed in the first section of the guide about the Molten Front: the Elemental Bonds questline for the cloak is not required to start the Molten Front dailies - as the Thrall questline can be time-consuming, I advice to start with the dailies first, and afterwards begin Elemental Bonds (and possibly continue on the next day, after the second round of dailies)
For questing in Cataclysm zones, only Hyjal really offers a true bonus for gearing up at 85, since you need to complete the first half of the zone (until the Regrowth appears) to unlock the Molten Front dailies mentioned above.
Of course, this will all be moot when Mists of Pandaria comes out in just over a month (and if you plan to purchase it)

As a raider, nothing is more annoying than seeing someone with PVP gear on in a raid, thinking it's just as good as the gear anyone else is wearing. The stats are going to be different to benefit the PVP experience and not the PVE experience. It's just like someone going into a BG with PVE gear on - they're going to get stomped, even in tank gear.
I'd rather see someone in PVE blues and greens in a raid trying to get geared than see someone in epic PVP gear. They might be able to pull their weight, but it's the fact that they could win something that should go to a more deserving person that irks me.

I agree to a point, however I only used the PvP crafted gear to "cheat" my way into HoT's and LFR for about 1 week. And if a pc of gear dropped you bet i rolled - that's what I was there for. Did I try to PuG a DS reg - no, did I try to run DS with my guild - no, I used LFR and reforged the PvP gear as much as possible to be PvE vialble and worked hard to contribute. I was easily in the top 1/2 of the DPS charts due to players in all PvE gear not giving a crap and being carried by the rest. PvE gear is far greater for PvE than PvP of course - but being able to play and being willing to put out effort goes a long way as well.

The real problem with PvP gear is, people actually equip it. As a "cheat" to get into higher-tier dungeons/LFR, who cares, but to equip that for PvE... maybe even a 318 green would be more suitable, esp. when Mists introduces the new stats on PvP gear.
Nevertheless, I don't think the OP will want to blow gold they don't have on something that's going to last a month tops.

Just wanted to throw some food for thought in here - I feel that downgrading 377 PvP gear to a 318 PvE green equivalency is a bit harsh.
Take a look at
this
for example. I'd argue that the PvP item is worth at least a 346 blue equivalent, if not the 353 purple, even with epic gems in there. There is indeed a lot of wasted resilience, but you're still getting a nice large chunk of a primary stat.
I'm not a fan of seeing PvP gear in PvE content either, but the cheap 377s are still a nice upgrade over questing greens when you need that quick boost to get into heroics and beyond. You'll definitely want to be replacing it with 378 PvE stuff as soon as possible though; seeing this gear in LFR (or a proper DS raid) makes baby pandas cry.
