Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
Give a person the right education on the power of a firearm and they'll learn the importance and the value of it. It those people who misuse guns that ruin it for us people who use guns responsibly.
There does need to be stricter laws on how gun sales and exchanges can happen, but then again it hampers those people who deal with guns and sell guns on a regular basis. It's no winning on the responsible citizen's side.
Fatal did ask this question, but it's still a good topic IMO.

I think guns are stupid. That's all I have to say, really.

Because even if you made them illegal, people are still going to find ways to get them.

Shotguns are used for hunting, mainly bird. But the saying goes, you don't have to be a good shot with a shotgun, you just have to be close.
I would say assault rifles do raise a red flag, but what is an assault rifle doing in civilian hands? Generally those are used in combat situations and the only time I've seen them outside of combat are in avid gun collections.
The Federal Assault Weapons Ban that happened back in like 1994? helped control some semi-automatic weapons manufactured after whatever date (I'm terrible at dates, I can't remember but my dad will chew your ear off about it!) to prevent them from being used with civilian hands. It really helped with gun crimes with those weapons for a long time, but since that ban is now moot it's become more common and easier to obtain those weapons.
Should they reinstate that sort of ban? Probably. People should have to go through background checks for those kinds of weapons. I know many pawn shops that do the background checking and many that don't. Gun crime where I'm from isn't an issue and everyone knows everyone here.
I really don't think just anyone should have an AK-47 in their possession without proper knowledge and understanding and probably paperwork proving they're not some psycho path. I'm kind of babbling now because I keep getting interrupted at work and I lose my train of thought o_o

if you disarm middle america who are good americans. the ghetto serial killers can easily get it from from many sources even if it's illegal.
there will be arms no matter what. disarming america would only make it worse.

Yes, but making something illegal may discourage it. Rape and murder still occur, but that's not good reason to legalise them.
Don't know. There are some hopes and prospects, but there are reactionary elements too.

I think we're more likely to destroy ourselves than reach some kind of Utopia.

This really; for every good piece of technology that is created, we also create another 10 harmful ones. We'll kill off ourselves eventually, and hopefully there is enough left over for our replacements to keep existing.

There are 300 million privatley owned guns in the United States. lets say the goverment does outlaw them, how would they even go about collecting them from people? And I also wanna point out that if even 1% of them are held back, thats 3 million illegal guns on the street, possibly in the hands of criminals.
Anyway as far as the future goes I could say it would go either way. Looking at it the future does look bleak, but tbh Im pretty sure its been looking like that since the dawn of time. People always look at the future like its going to be dark, maybe its just part of mortality. Every person comes with an expiration date, and it bothers people, even if its on a subconsious level.
I mean despite all the big, fantasticly destructive weapons we invent, things have still been getting progressivly better for a long time. This is of course if you look at it big picture wise, compare this few centuries to the ones before that. Although then again maybe that means were due for some big disaster, after all how long can that hold out?
TLDR: the future can go either way. If humanity does ever come to an end I think it would more likley be a slow crawl, rather than some big flashy nuclear war like you see in the movies.

I will try to pick up where Fatal left.
So, taking in account all the events from Columbine to recent Dark Knight shooting, I would like to discuss the gun control. So, Should we ban/put some limitations on the gun purchase around the world?
Original DOTD Thread located
here
for reference.
fatal brought an interesting question.
instead of the question, it's better to say.
"is it even possible to think that there is a reality where delegates and representatives would all agree around the world that it would be possible to put limitations on gun purchases around the world?
no
if i lost anyone, im sorry.
