Hi Skilly.
No one is going to hack you through the guild invites- don't worry about that. A lot of large or growing guilds will just automatically invite anyone running around without a guild. If you're new you'll probably find they're full of a lot of people who are leveling their first toons too, so they can be good places to meet people.
If you have any other questions feel free to drop into the ASPCN thread and ask them, or check out all of the resources there.

Yeah. Especially with lower levels, desperate (and worthless) guilds will spam you with guild invites if you're guildless.
I don't even pay attention to them when they don't bother asking. If they ask, then they might be worthwhile. Otherwise they're a waste of time.

You can ignore guild invites through the interface menu.

Alternatively, you can report them for spam. There's usually only a few of these on each server and they use addons that are incredibly spammy.

However, high level guilds have nice perks. It can sometimes be useful to join one of them while levelling. You can type /gquit to leave any time you like.
while this is true, your often better off with a small friendly guild thats willing too explain stuff. then a large guild of which 90+ % of the people in it joined purely for the perks and dont care beyond that.

Even more so after this patch, since guilds level incredibly fast anyways! =)

There's nothing "spammy" about the add-ons if they're used correctly. Our own
janniie
wrote SGI and it includes a blacklisting function that by default won't invite the same player twice within a week's time.
When several guilds and guild members in each guild use it, it certainly can seem spammy, but many times players are getting invited to multiple guilds rather than the same one over and over. In my opinion, responsible guild leaders will designate only ONE person to use the add-on for recruitment. Reporting it as spam does cause you to ignore the sender temporarily, but thank you for clogging up the customer service queue when a simple "no thank you" in response to an invite is usually more than enough to prevent the same person from inviting you again.

Best way to block all guild invitations is to join a guild.
Crazy but true.

No the best solution is for the idiots who whisper guild invites not to do it.
Guilds should only recruit generally through trade channel or specifically by the guild invite system which is blockable.
Under no circumstances should they whisper invites to random people, which is what has plagued me since this idiotic guild level thing started.
I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you could control other people's actions and make them stop spamming invites. My mistake.
Joining a guild would not help me as you end up with the bonus to experience which screws up the levelling curve even more than it currently is.
Then join a level 1 guild, or just skip lots of quests. Problem solved.

So turn on the option to block all guild invites and respond to random whispers the way a civilized human being would: with a kindly "no thanks." Tell a repeat inviter that you don't want another invite and you'll consider the next recruitment whisper as spam. If the person using the recruitment add-on doesn't add you to the blacklist and you get whispered again, just report spam and have a nice day. No need to get so upset.

I also have quite a few "alts" so I understand your point about receiving the same invites over and over. That's why I created a macro to reply "no thanks" and have that macro on one of the action bars for each of my characters.
