Depends; if you are in an instance and there isn't a mage pull out the felpuppy, if there isn't a priest pull out the imp.
For leveling: Again, depends. Usually Voids are good for Afflict and Destro to keep things off you, and Felguards and Voids are good for Demon.

Considering that just about every of our dps pets are about 100 to 200 dps of difference of each.
I left my demons wailing on the dummy for about 10 minutes each, this much (and still not enough) to avoid RNG changing the results.
For the most part, my Imp did about 4800 dps, the Succubus 4900, and the Felhunter about 5000.
So if you want to min/max, go Felhunter, if you have flyers that melees can't reach (like add dragons on Blackhorn) I would suggest the Succubus or Imp, depending on range.

Also there's Sacrifice for no pet when you hit level 75. Sure it's late for leveling but there's still 15 levels. I never used Sacrifice below 85, but I can say that at 85 it does more damage for me than the pets. Though, it was about only a 1-2K DPS difference from using a pet. It's really all about preference, utility of the "Command Demon" spell and individual fight mechanics.
Sometimes you'll have burst phases so the highest DPS pets (tending to be Wrathguard/Felhunter/Felguard) and Grimoire of Service. Otherwise the personal preference for enjoying the game or the utility such as a CC from Succubus, spell interrupts from Felhunter or Stamina bonus from Imp, and some fight mechanics can help you min/max if that's your thing.
