which do you guys think is better?

It depends on what you like the most. Try out both of them. But be ware that balance is a ranged spec and therefore is the most useful for most fights.

Yeah, I doubt you'll get much insight from such a vague question, but I agree with the first thing Karlzone said. It depends heavily on what you want to get out of the character, and what you enjoy more. I think Karl's last statement might be a bit too strong, Ranged is more useful in some situations, and Melee is more useful in others. It would be tough to make a general statement about which is more useful (though I would say generally in PuGs people prefer ranged; though I'm not sure there's any logic behind that trend, or if the behavior of PuG's should be a guiding consideration).
It would be bad design if one or the other was significantly better in all cases (that is to say, you should be happy that there isn't a black and white answer to your question), right?
I have a decently geared 85 Feral and a separate decently geared Balance. Personally, I prefer Feral, but it's not because Feral is "better;" it's because I'm more familiar with it and therefore my performance is consistently higher in the same level gear. However, because I've seen YouTube videos and seen performance in LFG/LFR from amazing Balance druids significantly outperforming my Feral, this motivates me to try to learn Balance better. I guarantee there's many Druids out there who prefer Balance for similar reasons.
Bottom line... you really can't go wrong, just pick one or try both. If you enjoy it, and you do your homework, you'll be a valuable member of your raid in either spec.

It depends. Are you leveling? If so I'd almost certainly say Feral (I recommend it in my specializations for leveling guide). At level cap, however, it's a toss-up. I'd say dabble in both but don't expect either to be better than the other for long, as you'll be getting to 90 soon enough. (I'd probably try to gather some Feral gear, by the way.)

well, feral now is a bit different from the old tree, it has lost it's bearcatting versatility, and the reintroduction of savage roar now makes it inferior to moonkin IMO, after i've chosen feral for 2 xpacs.
Moonkin seems the winner due to some quality of life changes, like u can mount and keep moonkin form, u can heartstone in moonkin, u can rejuv in moonkin (if glyphed), and so on.
Feral has the advantage in lvling of sharing the gear with guardian (which grants you almost everytime instant ques), while gearing for moonkin too can be harder if you have a fast pace.
To balance this moonkin is better at farming low lvl stuff or quest mobs, due to the ranged pull abilities, while as feral faerie fire has a cd, and moonfiring, then shifting back to cat can hurt your brain after a while.
As a melee/ranged point of view it comes down to specific fights which is better, healing favors melee, due to the stacking aspect (holy radiance, rain, atonement, sanctuary, effloresce, chain heal, SLT), while dmg reduction from aoe "fire" type effects favors ranged, since a patch of fire or voidzone will likely hit one player only.
DPS is also an important factor, dunno if now is there enough data to make a valid conclusion which is better, u can simulate to have an idea, then consider that moonkin loses dps while moving at a bigger rate than feral, but feral also needs good positioning to perform optimally.
In the end, most important is IMO, as it has been said, what u prefer looking at, an owlbeast or a cat.
