Really whatever raiding pet is "best" is dependant on what buffs your raid group is providing, I find it generally wise to keep a wolf, a cat, and a hyena/serpent available for buffs, and a raptor for the sunder effect when the buffs from the other pets are provided. If every buff/debuff is provided, then it's simply your choice of asthetic appeal.

I was so happy they gave us a nice wolf skin this expac. I was so sad that they took the magehunter skins out of the wolf family, and I had to use a boring wolf all of Cata. The ones from the Vale are really nice, though.

I personally like running with a spirit pet for the little bit of extra healing it gives...
If I am able to heal myself a little it takes some of the strain of the healers (lets face it.. sometimes the healers attention is not on the hunters...)

I have the same questions I've used the spirit beast core hound brez cat thing and devilsaur
What puts out the top dps/utility combo in your experience?
Sporebats. They will make rogues bleed from their anus and hit bosses for a billion damage.

All pets put out the same damage. If you are looking at what benefits you the most;
Stats>Crit>Mastery (or Shale Spider > Water Strider > Spirit Beast for BM)

While it might be funny, I think the word is finally out about this pet and the nice buff it offers.
Mine is named "Analbleed"...

Funny how you can call a %^&*ty debuff a nice buff instead.
Apparently the word is still not out;
