Why can't elves call their stuff holy?
I mean, in real life, Jews had the "Holy of Holies" in their temple, Christians have the "Holy Grail," Islam has "Holy War," etc. It's an adjective; you can't patent it.
This is totally a nitpick, but devil's advocate could argue that as they are all Abrahamic religions, that's not really an ideal example (eg., dwarven, high/blood elf, and draenei religions all have much more in common with the main human religion in WoW than the Night Elves', Taurens', or Trolls' religions do, thus they are all "Holy" religions).
Yes, I agree that when talking about game mechanics, it's simpler to use "Holy" to describe the Holy Light and the abilities related to it. However, it seems just silly to argue that elves shouldn't be allowed to say that "this Moonwell is a holy place."
That's exactly what I'm trying to say, man.

The word "Holy" can be traced back to the Old English "hālig," meaning "whole" and used to mean "uninjured, sound, healthy, entire, complete."
If the word were invented by a particular religion to express a concept unique to that religion, (like "Kodesh," the Hebrew equivalent), then the argument that the word can only be used to describe that religion might be valid. However, when you're just talking about an English adjective's use in a pretend video game religion, it's kinda silly to say that "only video game religion A gets to call their stuff holy; religion B has to find a different word."

I was refering to the MAGIC.
You can't call starfall holy can you?
If you are a Priestess of Elune doing it you can.

I'm not talking about game mechanics.
Ok, lets see here
All magic is either arcane or divine
Divine magic is then split into various religons, one of them is the holy light, which creates holy magic.

And Shadow Magic, the Sun power of the Tauren....oh and look, the power of the Night Elf Goddess; amazing how that works out eh? Since the Priestesses of Elune call upon the Light of their Goddess to destroy their enemies, heal their allies and mend their lands.

Which are all other subsets of divine magic.
it sort of works like this
Magic
Divine-----------------------------------------------------Arcane
Holy-----Lunar------Elemental------Shadow||||Fire-----Fel-------Frost-------Shadow

Adamsm
Actually...No it doesn't; Shadow is the opposite of Light. Divine has no connection to Arcane.

I keep misreading the title as "DERAILED: RAILGUNS."
That would be so much cooler.

Magic is basically seperated into divine and arcane magic
Divine magic is further split into the various religons we see on azeroth
I'm horrible at making charts.

Magic is basically seperated into divine and arcane magicActually....no, not really;
as shown here
it's a hell of a lot more complicated then just that.
So, to sum it up: The powers of the Priestesses of Elune, the Vindicators of the Draenei, the Blood Knights of the Blood Elves, the Loa Priests and the Sunwalkers are all just as Holy as the followers of the Church of the Light.

According to
that page
, Elune's magic falls under
Nature
.
Post by
Adamsm
Which still doesn't make the power of Elune any less Holy compared to the Light.

Lordplatypus
Yes, Yes it does.
You keep calling it "Holy" when it's actually "Divine"
Divine branches
Nature (Elune & the Ancients)
Shamanism
Holy (aka Light)
Voodoo

Again, I think you are arguing about different definitions.
Elune uses a different sort of magic than the Light, I think. They are both divine, but since I don't buy the "Elune is a Naaru" theory, I don't think it's the exact same sort of magic. So Lunar magic isn't Big-H "Holy." (The name used by the game to define Light magic).
However, since both sorts of magic are held as sacred by their adherents, they are both little-h "holy." (The synonym for sacred).
