Fel flame to refresh dots

I have taken the habit of using fel flame to refresh UA and Corr.
At first i was only using it while on the move but now i pretty much integrated it into my rotation.
It just seems like the natural thing to do and seems like better use of gcd's.
I am wondering if someone allready did the math on this of if i am missing something obvious that would tell me its a no no.
Thanks

It is a bad idea unless you're moving and you don't have anything better to do. By recasting the original spells you add more time than you get out of fel flame, so using fel flame means you're basically wasting a GCD and not using your time effectively.

The only issue I would see with it is that Fel Flame doesn't "refresh" the DoTs, it just adds a little more time on it, so you have to use it twice to get a full refresh. I'm not sure how it'd sim, but I can't imagine it'd make a huge difference. Maybe just the more convenient way to do it, though.
My corruption for example is now 17.xx seconds long and UA about 14sec, so it'll take 3 FF to refresh to full, in reality i usually cast 2 but you get the idea.
The problem is that if u wanna to take adventage of the differents procs that u may have, u have to refresh those, not just add time....
Yes but the opposite would be also be true, line up procs, dot and keep it going with FF the entire fight.
Didnt they make it so the dots adjust to your procs? I know they do for target debuff's but i' not sure about your own buffs. Can someone please confirm.

I hear you but i dissagree with the wasting of gcd. FF deals dmg so you are not entirely wasting your globals. It may not be efficient, and thats what i am trying to figure out, but i dont think its a total waste.
edit: come to think of it more now,, i think in the end you are right and this will translate into a significant amount of lost ticks that probably outweight the FF dmg.
Thanks for the answers, ill try and test some of this.
Let me know if you find something.

Hmm, looking at it deeper, it may be that I am wrong. While it was certainly true in Cataclysm that Fel Flame's DPET (even considering the DoT extension) was lower than anything else you could cast unless you needed to move
right now
, I can't quite tell whether it is the case now. I don't know if Wowhead's tooltips are 100% accurate, but on the surface it is looking like each cast of Fel Flame is in fact better than refreshing the dots manually. I don't know if there may be other mechanics involved that I'm completely ignorant of that may bring up alternate considerations.
