This is not a WoW is dying thread, Just curious that since cata killed off alot of players for the game. Any ideas what the player level currently is? I keep an eye on Xfires playtime and wow has gone from being 2-3 million minutes played more than 2nd place game(normally COD4) to being about 4-5 million minutes behind LoL. So was curious as to what the player activity and level is?
sorry for posting twice, kept saying my first post was deleted.

I think most people are saying Cata killed off WoW players because it was the first time in WoW's history that it had seen a steady significant drop in players, with it dropping 1/4 of its playerbase over the course of Cata (myself being one of those who quit Cata shortly after Firelands, then came back for Mists).

There is, to my knowledge, no way to find out the active subscription numbers unless Blizzard releases it themselves. Which they often do at the end of various fiscal quarters. Typically that information is released to update shareholders and then it tinkles down to the rest of us. I imagine we may hear something sometime in January as to current figures.

The 10-K is due 60 or 75 days after the end of the fiscal year which in this case is Dec 31. Usually the 10-Q's and 10-K's of publicly traded firms are released by the company on the same day they are filed. I think Blizzards parent falls into the 60 day category so expect something Mar 1st for the whole year and then the first quarter results on May 5th.

Aye Civgw i had the exact same feelings from cata. i had quit myself just before firelands was released and thought that was it for good. But i can back and started enjoying it again, Hench why i wondered if the player figures where going to start rising again as we have now got a half decent expansion out.

Does the size of the playerbase affect your game experience that much? Even if half the players quit, Wow would still be the largest for-pay MMORPG. There'd be enough people to populate the AH, dungeon finder, and your guild's roster.
If you're not enjoying it because your friends quit, meet up with them in some other game.
Whether the actual subscriber count is 4M or 12M isn't going to matter unless you're investing, in which case there are a ton of other sources of ATVI revenue anyway. Especially since over half of that number comes from other regions.
Does not bother me at all, I was just wondering if numbers where going up since MOP is for most people a much better expansion that cata.
