Choosing a Christmas charity

Well, Christmas is nearly upon us and I don't think there's a better time of the year to remember our fellow humans and try to emulate Christ in our own small way. As Betrand Russell said, what the world needs is "love, Christian love, or compassion". I think it'd also foster a sense of community to all agree to a particular charity and join efforts in supporting it.
Here are the ideas gathered so far in the Recycling Bin, plus a few I just thought of (sorry, I couldn't find the church you mentioned online MyTie).

The church I mentioned is the one I go to. I'm on the board that administers the money. If you guys wanted to donate, I could give an address to mail money to, and then that money could go to something we'd all agreed on. Then, I could do what everyone wanted with the money, and film it, or something. At least take pictures so you guys could see how it directly helped.

As someone who isn't very religious, I do believe in the overwhelming feeling of happiness and love from giving. Giving is definitely contagious, and normally if people see one person giving they'll give as well. It betters your attitude and outlook on life, knowing you're helping someone who needs it more.
I approve of this thread. There's no such thing as giving too much.

Christmas, IMHO, is a great time to keep charity close to home.
I tend to find the "angel trees", as they are called around here. These are trees that are set up at local retail stores, like Wal-Mart, that have a child's information, and a gift request for that child. A local charity then picks up and distributes the gifts to the families.
I realize that the major charities do a ton of good for people all throughout the year, but i like the more personal feeling I get when picking out a toy, or clothes, for a specific, local child.

I'm biased and would pick Wounded Warriors since I'm in the military.
