Restrictions on mailing to an alt.

Hello. My main is an alliance character and I was considering rolling a Horde alt so as to see aspects of the world that I've not seen before. However I'm not sure what the limitations are on interactions between characters on opposing factions. For example could my jewelcrafting alliance main send gems or any other items (or money?) to a Horde alt? How about heirloom bind-to-account items? Are they truly account-wide our are they restricted to one faction when out comes to mailing an item?
Cheers.

Heirlooms are the only thing you can trade across faction mail.

Ok, cheers for the help. I guess I'll have to stick to alliance for an alt. I mostly play solo/casual and as part of the investment of time into a new character I'll hoped to be able to have the character enchant items for my main.
Cheers
Edit- ah, realised that enchanting is a bad example due to how the mechanics of the process work.

What some people do to transfer funds from one side to the other is use the neutral auction house. As you can't buy your own auctions, you would need a friend to help you with this.So your horde character would post a junk item for say 5k(or whatever you need) then your friend on alliance side would buy it,then you would reimburse your friend with whatever they spent. You would lose some money with the auction house fee though, which i think currently sits at 15%

Cheers for the tips. I think I'll level a worgen warlock alt (because Worgen Warlock is a nice alliteration! ;-))
