This is one of the issues you will have when traveling and logging in from different areas. I have not had an issue with resetting my password when this happens, so you may have made a mistake in filling out the form.
It does not seem like it happens for every location change, but with large distance changes or when making multiple changes on several days it does happen.

Consider Getting a Authenticator as this could help your problem. Its not ideal that you are travelling with your WoW Account but if it must be please consider using the Authenticator. Found and purchasable

Using internet in hotelrooms used to be the way for hackers to hack accounts...\
i trust you I do not hear this often anymore, while in WOTLK it happened so often to members of the guild.
So thenBlizz advised players only to play wow on ''safe locations''and not many different ones.
So I think it is likely the ''hack'' idea is was caused your block.... and solution is posted above. Contact Blizz by phone (assuming you cannot do it on web anymore)
I think they should have heard your story before.....

As has been echoed here previously, having an
authenticator
on the account will help prevent such locks from happening. The mobile authenticators* for the smartphones and tablets are free, and they're super easy to set up ^_^
*The one thing I would definitely encourage is that if you set that up, be sure to record your serial number and restore key in case you have to reprogram the app!
