; but as they say, D3 was number one while Mists was number three so the fact that about 6 hundred thousand users between when Mists launched to Dec 13 2012 left the game isn't really anything at all to crow about how this or that feature is killing the game.

Using rested XP as a gauge for how difficult a leveling bracket is is a poor measure. Yes, it lasts for three levels, but you can go up five (or more!) in one sitting; and in that one sitting of questing below 25 you'd go up several levels, where you would see perhaps one, at most, during the same amount of time at higher levels.
Additionally the main difficulties of the very early levels are learning the class mechanics- and even then you're eased into them. If you're finding the opening areas more difficult than the later stuff, then I would say that you've been missing something along the way that's right in front of your nose.
You completely missed the point: the leveling pace is out of whack. It's taking forever to get to level 20, yet you can go from level 80 to 85 in one night...one night...on rested XP.

Lol whut? Really? I'm averaging about an hour and a half to hit level 12-14 without heirlooms on my new Pandas(and that's just in the new starting zone). If it's taking you a long time to reach level 20, you may want to reconsider your leveling path; with my Monk(in full looms I will admit) I was easily level 40 by the end of my first day of playing it, and that was a combination of doing quests and instances.
Edit: Also, for the rested comment, you do realize that since MoP came out the required exp to hit level 85 has been lowered considerably right? Even then, just by doing all of the quests in both Hyjal and Deepholme, with some dungeon runs in between, it wasn't that hard to hit 85 back in the Cata days.
Leveling isn't a chore, and it's not meant to be one; it's a portion of the game, and for those who hate it, they've made it so that those people can just sprint to the end game content that they pay their sub for each month. For those who like leveling(such as myself), no one is holding a gun in your mouth and telling you to get the hell out of a zone when quests go gray; if you want to finish it off, go right ahead.
Oh and for the low leveling path; it's fairly easy on a Horde toon to hit 35 in one day just by going to the Forsaken starting zone, follow it through Silverpine, Hillsbrad and Arathi.....Kalimdor, not so much, just because of the sheer amount of travel in those zones.
Edit 2:
So saw your post here
; dude, if you have a high end toon dragging around a low level, no wonder leveling is taking forever. Your high level is eating up all of the exp for the lowbie; stop being dragged around and go out and have some fun with the lowbie and watch how fast your exp jumps. And if you do feel the need to do the follow the leader path, at least get a full group of lowbies so that the exp share is more evenly distributed; if there are multiple low levels, the high level doesn't steal as much EXP.

I'm not crowing. I'm surprised it didn't fall by more. Why do you think it didn't hit your estimate of over 11M?
Cheers.

Why do you think it didn't hit your estimate of over 11M?Who knows, and really...who cares? Game is still the most played MMO out there, so we know that Blizzard will keep giving it love and care for a long time to come, and really, according to some in this thread, that's supposedly all that matters.
All I know is: I still enjoy CRZ and I still love this game after playing it for almost 7 and a half years, and really that's all I care about.

Investors and gamers do care.
Investors to make a profit (why they invest). Gamers in their time and money investment (as WoW is a subscription game). Starting WoW now is a huge investment of each, and players need to be like the investors and look at future profits and potential. No one wants to get to 90 and the game starts to jump the shark.
Understand also that 9.6 million is worldwide. WoW players don't play with worldwide players, they play in regions. So if China has 5 million players, those in the USA aren't playing with them. Why we have CRZ, as there's not many actively playing to make the world lived in, especially with 251+ realms that's shared with Oceania and Brazil.

To start the game it's about 10 bucks for Vanilla to Wrath, 20 at the most for Cata and 40 for MoP; 70 dollars, oh noes, please don't hurt my wallet so.
So if China has 5 million players, those in the USA aren't playing with themBecause China isn't up to date yet, and there are a lot of restrictions from the government on the game? WoW China is a completely different beast from WoW EU/US.
And it's still a who cares: One more time for those who don't think.
World of Warcraft has 9.6 Million Subs on it and the game hit 12 million at one point.
The recent loss of subs is equal to the entire SWTOR player base; think about that for a moment. No other MMO has hit the kind of numbers that WoW has hit; and really, I sorta doubt any actually will. Not investing in World of Warcraft is like not investing in a Coca-Cola or Pepsi, or even the one thing that no matter how far down the toilet the economy goes: Porn!

Yes, like parrots don't add much to a discussion, especially repeating the usual 71k mimes.
I would be careful in trying to advertise the loss of nearly 3 million subs as a good point, too. You may high five that WoW weathered the change, but you're not helping the investors at all.
And always remember how David downed Goliath.

I know this will come as a shocker to you, but we're not all free-wheeling 20 somethings with nothing to consider but our own wants and needs. One day when you have more mouths to feed than your own, you may find that you have to consider your expenditures a little more carefully than you do now and the price consideration of WoW for some people may actually make sense to you.
TLDR: Do you need to be insulting or can you argue your point like a grown up?

And yet the game lost those 3 million people nearly a year and a half ago at this point...so tell me, how is it 'bad' in the eyes of the investors when it's still holding steady above the 9 million mark, which is several times more then any other MMO has held. Please, I want to know how this is a bad thing.

Dude, I purchased WoW at full price; if I could, I would love to get it at the price it is now, since for the price of one brand new console game, you can get four expansions worth of content. And no, I don't need to be insulting but hell, it's fun anyways.
Edit: And considering what the comment in regards to was, the snark may have been a much, but for what you get with WoW, it's definitely worth the investment. Like I said, I've been playing for seven years at this point, and I purchased Vanilla, BC, Wrath and Mists at full price and I spent the extra dough for the Cata collectors edition. I also pay 30 bucks every two months for the game card. I know it can be expensive to start up the game, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper then it used to be.

As did I, a couple of times over as well I might add, and while you're tamer than some your insults are much more entertaining when you go toe to toe with appropriate quarry.

I suppose so. Just, some comments bring out the snark knight within me, and I don't always have the correct control over it that I should.

Because when a company is not growing then it's shrinking, if not by it's own numbers then by it's percentage hold on the market, which will cause investors to bail.
Look at the drop Apple just took because it didn't hit previous lofty numbers and yet no one would state that the company is in any trouble, but they have lost billions in revenues from the stock drop and that can't be dismissed.
Panic is a powerful emotion in the stock investing industry.
As to why the quick drop so soon after the initial expansion burst, I'm going to hazard an educated guess and say it is because of their previous targeted demographic market.
I say previous because I do think MoP is attempting to retrieve a disenfranchised mature/older portion of players who used to play. It needs time to bring them back.
This current crop that Blizz has been cultivating since then end of Wrath is a fickle bunch that come and goes in the same fashion as their music idols. What's hot today is out tomorrow. Their friends play, then they play and vice-verse.
I sincerely believe that at some point back in time, the powers that be had come to the logical conclusion that they had tapped as much of the 18-40+ demographics that they were going to get and that any further growth was going to come from the only untapped sector and that was the young 4-11 year old at the start of vanilla that were now in their teens.
This is a constantly renewing demographic and the game had to be designed for them.
Which is what I feel you got in Wrath and Cata.
A game that was quicker, easier, a much lower learning curve and looser interactive genre.
A community more in line with the CoD franchise which was Activision's forte at the time of the merger.
Anyone with a family member in this age group understands how quickly anything in their lives comes and goes.
Which is why Blizz is getting so much flack about CRZ. dailies grinds, previously about LFR loot drops, this hurry up and give me my reward without delay mentality.
I do believe Blizz is attempting to win back the older demographics again. The question is will they come back.
Using my own small segment the answer so far is not yet.
I have sent many rez scrolls out to former adult members and only a couple have bitten.
WoW is one of those enigmas, easy to get into, hard to get out of, but once you do, so very hard to get back into.
Hopefully that will change.
I am not up to date on the next major patch so correct me if I am wrong, but it seems they haven't completely reset progression by what I'm hearing about justice point. This is a good step.

You all really need to remember that World of Warcraft is only one of their many many games. A loss in subscriptions for one of their games isn't going to be their overall focus when looking at how healthy ATVI is. Overall, the company made significantly more in 2012 than it did in 2011. The company is growing. That is good for WoW! :)

The glass is half full, and half empty.
The fact that it's lost any at all is the glass half empty.
The fact that it still has 9.6M is the glass half full.
There are two ways to look it. It's still a great game, so 9.6M is not bad at all, and still generate tons and tons of money for Blizz.
Cheers.

He wasn't being insulting. If you have so many mouths to feed that you cannot afford to buy a video game, that's your problem, not a marketing problem and no reason to take offense where none was to begin with.
As it happens, I've been paying my wife and my father's sub for years. Didn't seem to hurt my chances of buying my house or feeding the various other mouths that I'm responsible for.
WoW peaked its subs in Wotlk, because let's be honest, Wotlk just played every single 'cool' card the storyline had to offer. There's probably other reasons behind the sub numbers during that expansion, but for whatever reasons that was the peak and now it's tapering. It's gonna taper for a variety of reasons, and probably less than half of those reasons are the result of anything that's perceived to be wrong with the game, but more likely folks just doing other things.
Whatever the reason, even if the total number of subs had dropped four, eight, twelve times as much as it did, I'd still be playing, because I enjoy the game. If you're to the point where you're looking at expansion costs and rationalizing why it's bad and how the game's failing, perhaps it's time you re-examine why you're here.

Actually these are pretty good numbers and better than I was expecting especially if China accounts for most of the decrease.
BTW does anyone know how they count heads on people who only play on a by-the-hour basis as far as the overall subs number is concerned ? I can think of 2 or 3 ways to count them and more ways than that to abuse whichever method is selected
