I give up with "consecutive days".

I've determined that it's impossible for me to get beyond a week or so of consecutive times logging in.
I had noticed early on that my "consecutive" amount sometimes didn't seem right. I would think it should be my 9th or 10th day of logging in in a row, but when I checked, it would just say 1. At first, I didn't think much of it and decided maybe I had missed a day and forgotten, but later I was sure it must be the site, so I gave up on logging in every day.
And now, today, I was proven correct.
I logged in sometime around 3:30 PM, and noticed that it was my 6th day logging in in a row.
Just now, at 7:30, I logged in again, and my consecutive timer is reset back to one.
When I mouseover the tooltip, it says new days begin at midnight CST. I'm on CST, so I'm not likely to mess up by miscalculating hours.
What is going on here?

Hi there,
There's a known bug where the counter continues to increase for a time, even after a missed day. This is, of course, misleading and frustrating for users and we're looking hard for a solution. However, the daily visits
are
being logged properly, it's just a bug with the displayed value so in this case I can confirm that there was no site visit from your account on the 4th or 5th.
I'm really sorry that you got frustrated to the point of giving up. We recognise that the people who support and enjoy the site enough to want to get a high consecutive visit count are exactly the people we want to support right back and so we really regret that there's a bug in this particular system right now. It's proving difficult to pin down but we are on the case.

when i worked on that site achievement, i found the best thing was to manually check the reputation log every day. i actually set it as the homepage of my browser and scrolled down to check the time stamp on the reputation gain. it is a little annoying and requires a time commitment, but it's the only way to guarantee that your login is being registered every day.

Would be easier if the invalid date bug for the reputation tab on user profile page was fixed. Yes, yes, I know the dates on the actual reputation page work but since there are plenty of other uses for the profile page it'd be handy to be able to check it from there.

2 (i think it was 2) days of consecutive "BRB - site down for maintenance" aint really helping towards keeping the timer rolling. Think I was on 26 days or so when I suddently wasnt able to enter the site for days.
Edit: Just got the silver rocketeer today, despite my counter only saying 2, it seems like the 2 days of maintenance counted my tries to enter the site or something, despite the counter resetting.

I've noticed the consecutive days reset from 60-something despite daily visits, get to 6 today, then display 66 today, then reset to 6 today.
With all those sixes, must be the work of El Diablo ;)
If it helps your tech folks, I do not log in (eg. properly logged in as Chuffy) to this site from any other computer or device. However, I do check Wowhead from the same IP from different devices not logged in, like showing something to my partner using a mobile device. They also have their own Wowhead account and their own computer on this IP, from which they log in exclusively.

The greatest problem for me is when it expires your cookies and so you don't automatically "log in" even though you visit the site. Unless you go to check your data for the day you're not always aware it's happened.
I got to ~330 days until that recently happened :(

That is honestly why we tell people to bookmark their reputation page. That way, when you go to the page, you will see if you're logged in and can quickly confirm that you received a 'Daily Visit' notation in your history. That is by far the easiest way to ensure you don't lose your consecutive visits.

Ah, darn. I'm really sorry to hear that Niaw. After all your helpful contributions you deserve an achievement for "dedication".
The other approach to ensuring visits is to do something that requires being logged in every day like adding a comment or making a forum post. Of course it's a bit easier for us mods because we do things like dealing with reports but I've never had the issue with the expiring cookie and I think that's just because, if nothing else, I probably make a forum post every day. Get to know the folks in
the Bin
and you'll never need to worry about the cookie thing ^_^

Having Premium to disable ads is a good indicator, too - well, when I'm not logged in I don't see the ads either as AdBlock hides them, but I see the request by Wowhead to whitelist it ;)

That's a good point. I have had that smack me in the face occasionally as well.
However, the most obvious thing for me when I'm not logged in is the site looks very different.(##RESPBREAK##)12##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

Thanks Asa :) It's more an issue if I'm away and only checking in by phone or something. It's not immediately obvious if there's no log in. It doesn't really bother me though. It's just a fun achievement that has no big meaning. People liking my comments have far more meaning to me :)

I just got That's Some Dedication! despite my profile saying 285 visits - I did see it jump up by about 50 a few times before, but I figured in the end the lower number would count. Now I'm wondering, if I let a day lapse before my visit counter officially reaches 365, would the achievement be removed? I seriously doubt it, but some fear remains :P

It wouldn't be removed by the system or anything, and I doubt we'd go in and remove it manually.
During that brief moment that the # jumps up before correcting itself back down to the correct # the system has been awarding the achievement. Unfortunately it's a problem caused by a different problem that is being worked on when time permits.

Thank you so much for this comment!
I'm at 250+ right now, but I've lost two consecutive visit-streaks in the past (at around 70 and 140 visits) - both due to expired cookies and me overlooking that I wasn't logged... Since then each day my streak increased, my paranoia did too
("Wait did I check if I was logged in earlier? better doublecheck")
I already have wowhead.com set as my homepage but I've now changed it into "wowhead.com
/account
" now it directs straight to my account settings - unless I'm not logged in, as in that case you're redirected to the actual "login; username/password" page ^^

Today when I went to my profile I got the Expert Rocketeer achievement, and it said I had 100 consecutive visits. Then when I went to the achievement page it showed 58/100 on the progress bar, and when I went back to my profile it said 58 too. If I had missed a day and it actually was tracking the visits correctly like asakawa said in the second post, I shouldn't have gotten the achievement, right? Or is it a different display bug or something?
Post by
asakawa
It is still a display bug, it's just that the script that awards achievements isn't that sophisticated and gave you the achievement as soon as the required number was displayed, even though it later went back down again.

The bug is currently counting the # of times you've ever logged in, regardless of if they've been consecutive or not. Temporarily, the system recognizes that number and you may even see it displayed briefly. However, it eventually corrects itself to the current 'consecutive count' and you'll see the correct number. Unfortunately, the achievement is recognizing the bugged count.
It's a known bug that at present isn't significant enough to appoint developer time, especially since in this case it's benefiting people rather than harming (i.e - awarding technically not-yet-earned achievements).(##RESPBREAK##)2060##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##
