Thank you Godwin...
Good grief, there are rate-downs for the rest of the site, why not the actual forums? This type of &*!@ deserves an immediate multi-day suspension.
Honestly jixer, do you seriously not understand why we talk about this? It's about getting the most of out of your character, being the best you can be.
We couldn't give a rats ass if you want to spec 10/12/10 at lvl 70, but you sure as hell are not going to be even doing regular dungeon groups with any of us, much less heroics or raiding.
You'd fit right in with the Official WoW boards, please go there and leave us alone:

I agree. My job seems to be more and more in the lines of "Buff us, whip up a table, sheep that mob, and don't get in the way while we do the real work." and "Good, we're done here. Portal please!".
Our DPS is getting gimped in a big number of ways:
-Of all casters, we have most mana issues.
-Of all DPS (except locks, I think?), we have the least threat reduction, albeit passive, talents or active skills. Seriously, a 5 second wait for Invisibility, with instant-cancel when we cast or get hit?
-Of all DPS, we have the most immune-boss problems.
Not to mention that there's a lot of PvE drops with Spell Penetration on it, which is a pure PvP stat. Even pieces of our T4 have it!
And of course the fact that a lot of our PvE Tier set bonuses are simply useless in PvE. I mean, "100% to avoid interruption while casting Frostbolt/Fire ball"? If I'm getting hit in PvE, I'm dead already. Or running. But I won't be casting Frostbolt or Fire ball, that's for sure.
We do have a lot of nice utility, but our DPS is hardly gimped.
We have FAR less mana issues than boomkin, retadins, and elem shammies. In fact, the
only
mana DPS that has fewer mana issues than us is Warlocks, and that's only because they steal mana from the healers. We get over 200mp5 from pots and gems alone! If you need more, go 18 into Arcane for
Meditation
, or put on
Mage Armor
(or both). At T4 gearing those two add about 150mp5 each.
Out threat wipe is slow, but there are several classes that have no threat drop at all, or can only reduce their threat rather than wiping it. Reductions are nice, but a wipe is better. And even if our wipe is interrupted, it still is a partial reduction (10% threat dumped per second, till a full wipe at 5 seconds).
And only THREE bosses in the entire T5+ raiding schedule have any elemental immunity issues, so quit whining. Melee DPS have a far harder time on bosses than we do... there are a lot of bosses that gimp rogue dps due to movement, but I've never heard our rogues complain.
Spell penetration is a useless stat, can't argue with you there. But almost every class has some crap stats that they bitch about on their gear.
So whenever you get hit, you're dead, right? So are you saying that you never need healing in raids? Ever? Bull$%^&. Most bosses have effects or adds that will hurt (but not kill) clothies just to keep the healers on their toes. T4 pushback prevention lets you maintain max DPS through this pushback. On some bosses it's useless, sure; in other fights it's a very noticable improvement.
I've noticed that people that whine about their class often have only one 70. Every class has challenges to overcome. If you've only played one class, you only see your own challenges, and you see the ways in which other classes are better... but not how they are worse. Everyone has to overcome the limitations of their class, so suck it up and learn to play.

Playing frost certainly does have a large number of advantages PVE. I die far less frequently than others in any size instance/raid. Certainly, the ice block helps, but having a cold snap, decreased cooldowns, and frost bolt kiting make life much easier for me. As well, if a non-boss mob does get pulled by a careless DPSer, there's some more flexibility to get taunted etc because of my slowing effects. I cannot even imagine myself playing a fire mage because I enjoy frost just too much.
I say that if you're comfortable playing frost SilverNova, go back to it and find out how you can do more DPS with that spec.

heh was just a title, but I think it accurately portrays the situation of fire and non-frost mages raining on our parade of loving being frost. Don't you think?

Heh, the trouble is most people
who come here
want to know the "what" and not the "why" ;-)
Fixed that for you. :P

jixer, please just shut up and go away.
You are the definition of a n00b. One who is wrong, who knows absolutely nothing, but doesn't realize it and thinks he's the Be All End All.
We were once all newbs / newbies / new players. BIG DIFFERENCE. Most of us realize that there is information we don't know, so we talk to those people who do an learn about the class. This is one of many places people come to learn about WoW, about how the game works, and about how to get the most out of their character.
In short, you're a moron. We don't care if morons want to spec whatever way they want, but when said morons try to degrade others who are trying to learn and better themselves, THAT's when things get bad.
The fact that you've already invoked Godwin's Law makes you an idiot. That you keep posting here makes you a grade A moron. We care, you don't, why are you still posting?

Well i've been a frost spec on my mage the whole time, and I find that I am rather inexperienced, but I still would like to give my opinion and hopefully not get too ridiculed by everyone on this forum. Well I love being frost, especially for dungeons(haven't ran any raids yet so if you don't want any of that info just ignore this completely) i've almost outdone a tier 5 hunter when I was lvl 66 in overall dps, and i've noticed I can outdo most other hunters that are lower than that tier at 69 and they are 70, and feral druids with cat gear, and most locks. I think that frost can be very exceptional if you have a higher crit rating, and if you have an ok amount of bonus spell damage, plus you can usually survive if a boss or mob starts attacking you long enough for tank to regain aggro. Well thats my opinion, maybe i'm a complete noob or maybe i'm just inexperienced but thats my opinion and i've given it.. so w/e.

A lot of your talents will inherently increase your critical strike chance with your frost spells, or at least with your Frost bolts if your talents are done properly. I've had my critical strike chance run as high as about 50% for my frost bolts while fighting a raid boss even though my BASE unbuffed crit % is 14%. Just because your stats say something doesn't mean your talents won't beef it up a ton. ;-)
I think the common misconception for frost mages is that we don't deal out the same damage blah blah blah as other mage trees. All things being equal, though, dishing out 50% crits valued at around 4.7k-5k each with icy veins pumping out FB's every 2 seconds... I'd call that some decent DPS right there!
