"Ya daft? 'Course I didn'," Crassus scoffed. "Paid fer it. Every penny. 'Xactly fifty pounds 'n twenny pence."

“Equivalent exchange?” Ulrich asked in disbelief, eyeing the group with suspicion. “This can’t be real. This can’t be real,” he repeated over and over.
“Look, snap out of it,” Azuka said, stepping toward the news reporter. “Your suspicions about people higher up than you hiding information from you are true. Here we are, standing before you as bright as day, with supernatural powers at our fingertips.” She clapped her hands together and then separated them. An arc of energy rippled between her fingertips, lighting up the dark alleyway in a burst of light.
The channeling ceased, and blood dripped from her fingers. “See?” she said, looking out of breath and in pain.
Ulrich look like he was about to pass out.

"Oh-o man! He's freaking all kindsa hell out," Slash chortled.
"Oi!" Crassus reached forward and gave the reporter a shake causing his medallions and jewelry to jangle and ring. "Snap outta it!"

“Come on now,” Ulrich said, lacking the strength to break free from the rich man’s grasp, “not cool.” He began to look even more ill with the movement coupled with information that could not possibly exist in the world that Ulrich lived in.
“Crassus, cut it out, can’t you see the guy’s in shock? Who wouldn’t be after finding out we all have supernatural powers after having a near-death experience?” Azuka asked, trying to pull Crassus off of Ulrich.
“What now?” Ulrich said, though he seemed dazed and probably did not comprehend the new details Azuka had presented.

"Yeah. He needs cold water thrown in his face. Anyone got some?" Slash asked, looking to the rest of the party inquiringly.
"Bah!" Crassus cried and released the journalist.

"How about you conjure up some water Mr. Alchemist?" Azuka asked, turning toward Crassus and giving him a stare down. "With all that cash of yours that shouldn't be too hard."
Ulrich still seemed to be in a daze. Nothing seemed to make sense to him. He was living in another world, another dimension.

Azuka glared at Crassus. She was not used to being told off, but she could not remember why. Had she been a leader of something? A master of someone? There were too many options to guess, yet the nagging feeling in her stomach suggested her thoughts were not the correct path.
“Look, I don’t need water,” Ulrich said to the group, finally exiting out of his stupor. “It’s a lot to take in all at once, especially since I’m not like any of you, or at least that I know of. So . . . you all have died?”
“More or less,” Azuka responded. “Though I don’t remember how I died, some sort of amnesia. Don’t remember much of anything about my past right now.”

"Gunned down by a bunch a punk crooks. Took thirty six bullets ta finally finish me," crassus declared proudly.
"Trampled during a people stampede," Slash added. "I was all like 'Noooo!' and they were all like, 'already gone' and then I was dead. Kind of a punk way to go but I have a good feeling about what will kill me this time. Be super dramatic death. Like, two guys fighting over me then they both shoot me when I run between them. Or get crushed by King Kong's corpse." Slash sighed dreamily.

“That’s an awful way to die, and an interesting way to put it,” Ulrich said, frowning and turning toward the whole group. “So what is it that you wish to accomplish here? Do you think the perpetrators were . . . whatever you are? Immortal?”

"Because I would su-uper want to meet them," Slash added enthusiastically.
