Anybody here old enough to remember Zork from when it came out? I figure probably about 95% of the people playing WoW weren't even born when Zork was started(1977), but we look at the early days of WoW as ancient history. Imagine, a role-playing game with no pictures. ;)

Zork wasn't my favorite. Mine were Hitchhikers and Leather Goddesses of Phobos.

What was that part in Hitchhiker's were you'd get stuck? (maybe not you, but a lot of people, me included. Can't remember now).. games on floppy disks ftw!
In hitchhikers, when I was accosted by the Bugblatter Beast of Traal, I put the towel over my head. Since if you cannot see it, it assumes it cannot see you. at that point, I had no idea what to do.
The hardest part was setting up everything in the vending room so that your Babelfish would fly across the room sliding across your towel and into your ear.

Bware you trip, knocking over your latern. It is cold, dark, and damp. You are likely to be eaten by a gru? If my memory serves me right :)
It was a grue. I think they got the name from combining green/blue. THAT'S what WoW needs, a grue that eats people who go adventuring in the dark. ;)

I got stuck before even getting out of the starting bedroom.

I got a Swiss Family Robinson game like those once, where you started on the wrecked ship and had to get to the nearby island. It took me hours to get off the ship. You had to go to the inside of the ship to get some tools and stuff you needed to build your raft(just like in the book), but not having much experience with ships, it took me quite a while to figure out that I needed to type in the command, "Go Below" to get down the stairs. :/

They remade Hitchhikers, there was apparently a contest where fans submit pictures for each scene, the game is still text but there are two versions where there is a picture to go with each scene now, great for some nostalgic boredom.
