something people honestly don't seem to understand is, world of warcraft isnt just a tool to simply replay all the lore in the warcraft story so far, but its continuing what was left off from WC3 afterwards. The lore will continue with the new expansions

Early WoW documents leaked before the original beta show plans for expansions through level 100. While there are some differences the BC content was VERY close. So I would expect that Blizzard plans at least 2 more expansions after WotLK.
What can derail this? With the gear changes introduced into BC to support Blizzards attempt to create the base for an E-sports franchise, they have introduced a great tension between PvP and PVE. We can debate whether or not WoW can become an E-sport, personally I tend to doubt it, but there is very little doubt that they are trying. The notion that new talents will be balanced for PvP then "tweaked" for PVE pretty much says it all.
Some people solely play for PvP some for PvE and there is a range of people (probably a substantial majority) who to some degree or other do both. As the level of specialization for PvP and PvE make them mutually exclusive this tension grows. For many people the tension and disparity between PvP and PvE detract from their enjoyment of the game.
PvE content is probably at least 2 orders of magnitude more expensive to develop than PvP. This makes PvP an extremely attractive return on investment. Unless they can successfully become PvP centric and largely abandon PVE, Blizzard is going to continue to grow only if they solve this problem. With every new level seasonal gear the tension gets worse. If the disparity increases in WotLK at the same pace it has with BC there is a very real possibility that the tension will cause many people to leave WoW.
There are several straight forward solutions to this all of which have been exhaustively discussed in this sites forums. So far Blizzard has ignored the problem. I suspect that unless people start dropping subscriptions they will continue to do so. The problem of course is one of momentum. Once people get frustrated enough to quit in any serious percentage, turning that around can be extraordinarily difficult.
We'll just have to wait and see.

One thing they could do to keep the 1-70 (and subsequent 1-80, etc.) from becoming tedious is to add new content for Azeroth. They've already done it for places like Dustwallow Marsh, so it's not like it's impossible. New quests, new dungeons, and new gear for the Old World will go a long way in keeping old players interested (via alts) and give new players plenty of ways to quickly level up.

I, personally, wouldn't be surprised if the "secret game" that's being worked on right now is Warcraft IV. I can see it now:
WoTLK ends at a cliffhanger, and the only way to find out what happens is to play (read: buy) Warcraft IV to find out, which, in turn, is another cliff-hanger, and by the time people finish Warcraft IV (and its expansion), the new WoW expansion will be out to continue the story.
IT'S BRILLIANT.

What attributes will we see at level 100?
142031 hitpoints? 210239 mana? 182934 armour? It's going to look rediculous
I wonder if Blizz will re-sort the numbers a bit, as well as the way they increase with level.
Then again, such huge numbers can miss a few digits. Could lvl 100 pherhaps enter the k and M notation into our character sheet?
hitpoints: 142k mana: 210k armour: 183k ?
