I originally started out Blood Spec and liked it but I decided to try something different. So long story short I went to Unholy and I've been this spec for almost 5 levels. I've tried some specs I've seen on the forums here but really found a lot of them lack in certain areas I was looking for. So I came up with this spec and would like to know what you all think.
Unholy Spec (0/19/52)I usually am soloing by myself. Every once in awhile I find myself taking on several mobs at once. I found that this spec has plenty of burst damage and I'm hardly in combat for more than a few seconds. Usually completing one rotation.

I'm planning on making a DK when I hit 55 on my hunter, and I came up with what I think will be a nice build for leveling.
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=jfVMVhcIcfMxzAoG0x0hZcIt's a blood spec with some unusual differences than what you'd find in a normal leveling build.
First, I didn't get
Rune Tap,
Mark of Blood,
Vampiric Blood, and
Hysteria. The reason why I skipped out on all these talents, is because the first three abilities use blood runes, while the last one takes away 30% of your health for only a 20% damage bonus. If I have blood runes, I am going to be using them for
Heart Strike. I don't plan to AoE grind.
Second, I went a bit into frost and got talents to up
Icy Touch's damage, but my main goal was
Annihilation so that I could use obliterate and heart strike in a rotation to max out my single-target dps.
Finally, you'll notice that in this build that I got
Blood Aura. Blood aura and
Blood Presence actually do not stack healing bonuses, but blood aura allows you to use any presence other than blood and still get blood presence's healing ability. You do lose the +15% damage, but since I'll be using
Unholy Presence instead of blood presence, it will be more than made up for. First off, the +15% increased attack speed only applies to white-damage, but it basically gives the same effect as blood presence. In fact, it gives a little more. Let's use
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=38633 in our calculations:
(164+247) / 2 = 205.5 (let's round up to 206)
206 x 1.15 = 236.9 (blood presence's damage bonus)
237 / 3.4 = approx. 69.7 dps
Now let's calculate with unholy presence's attack speed bonus:
3.4 x 0.85 = 2.89
206 / 2.9 = approx 71 dps
So unholy presence gives just a little more white damage. However, the bonus does not apply to instant attacks, as they are instant speed and are unaffected by the speed bonus. But there's one more part: unholy presence also reduces the global cooldown for all abilities by 0.5 sec. The global cooldown without this bonus is 1.5 sec. With the bonus, it is 1 sec. This means that the dps of your instant special attacks are essentially increased by approx. 33%. Let's do some more math, with and without this bonus, using Heart Strike with the axe we used for our previous calculations. I'll assume the target has two diseases, from icy touch and
Plague Strike:
206 x 0.6 = 123.6
123.6+220.8 = 344.4
110.4 x 2 = 220.8
344.4 +220.8 = 565.2 (heart strike's total damage with two diseases)
565 / 1.5 = 376.67 (heart strike dps without unholy presence)
Now let's shave off 0.5 sec with unholy presence
565 / 1.0 = 565 (heart strike dps with unholy presence)
WHOA! Yes, that really is a 33.33% increase in dps (assuming you spam heart strike, but then you get faster use for other abilities because of the gcd reduction, allowing you to shorten your rotations and therefore improve dps by a large margin). Also, I didn't include damage increasing talents for Heart Strike into these calculations.
Finally, my reason for getting blood aura and exclusively using unholy presence for leveling, is that you get a +15% movement speed increase. I do not know for sure (confirmation would be nice), but I think that you also get the increase while mounted, and so if this is true, that would make the lack of
On a Pale Horse less of a blow to leveling speed, and would justify going into frost for annihilation.
The rotation I would use for this build is:
Plague Strike > Icy Touch > Obliterate > Heart Strike x2 > Death Coil > Death Coil (if proc occurred) > Obliterate > Heart Strike > Death Coil > Death Coil (if proc occurred again)
Of course the mob would probably be dead halfway into this cycle. ;)
I'm sorry, that was one hell of a write up. I always like to put a large number of reasons behind my builds and other things that are related to my character's ability to level (as respecs are quite expensive nowadays). Please rate and leave comments, thank you!
