by my calculations blizz is batting about on avg an 88% uptime a month.
This month it's even less than that but I don't track that information.
88% uptime in any industry is completely unacceptable.

I have even begun to add in merchandise, royalties, actual cost of purchasing the game. The numbers just grow exponentially, into the billions.

Why in the hell do I care what the reason for the game not being playable. Blizzard is offering a service and I paid for said service but not getting it. I find it funny all of the people who are running to Blizzards defense and stating computer systems this and code that. Thats what their whole sales package is, they offer to let you play in a computer generated fantasy world, you pay for the time. Well I paid for the time but I'm not getting it.
For all the people defending blizzards very poor service you have all the right in the world to do what you like with your money the same as the the rest of us. But I know I won't be renewing my subscription let alone buying lich king.

it has us all in its grips which is why we are so vehemently arguing for and against blizz and their actions.

Why do you blame the consumer when a company can't keep its equipment functioning? Seriously. We basically rent space from Blizzard to allow us to play on the servers. Do you even want to know how much I would flip out if I rented a car from an agency and that car malfunctioned for two days? Lets just say the company would either make it right or they would never get my business again.
I'm not as prepared to walk away from WoW, but this is day two. People have a right to be upset at this point. I spent all of day one with faith that the servers would be back up before the night was out. I was pretty much wrong. I don't want to see a day three or I will personally be buying WAR instead of WotLK tommorow.
For all you people that are saying that Blizzard can do no wrong and we have no right to be upset you are so completely blind or so in love with Blizzard that you need your head adjusted. Companies are allowed to make mistakes from time to time as long as they make good on them, but when it is CONSTANT then there is a problem.

No it's not that, it's the fact that Wotlk hits tomorrow, you apparently don't realize the amount of things that can go wrong on opening day. Blizz just wants things to go smoothly for the launch so that people don't complain like they did when BC came out.
Why do people remember TBC going badly? I remember it going rather well. I guess it might have went badly on some servers, but I remember being able to play that game with NO DOWN TIME. It even came out on a Tuesday and they didn't even do maintenance that day. Do people just assume TBC went poorly because most games screw up launching expansions and they have those memories? We haven't had issues like this since WoW originally released 4 years ago. At that time the servers were relatively unplayable with long queue lines, continuous lag, and disconnections. They gave everyone 2 weeks rest bonus and a weeks credit because for the month of April (after release) it seemed like you couldn't even play the game.

But with this there is no time set for what we pay. and hell its 15 bucks a month now lets see here i think that is much LESS then CABLE TV and i belive its less then the time u pay for on ur xbox 360 and ps3.
why is everyone trivializing 15$.
It's money and it's 15$ which isn't a lot of money but it's money still. For some people like the ones who are living at home but have to pay for their fun 15$ is probably 2 hours of work for them.
If 15$ isn't anything to any of you than by all means please send me the 15$ .
Personally I don't own a ps3/ps2 xbox anything or any other gaming console.
I don't pay for cable tv and my tv is from 1989 yet I digress.
For some of us that make good money a year sure 15 a month isn't that much, it sure doesn't put much gas in your tank and you're lucky to get a meal for that price.
But I don't just go around handing 10 or 20$ bills out to homeless people or to the 7-11 clerk...
edit 88% downtime is still unacceptable and anyone who work in the IT field knows this ^^
