Ok, lets say I am an enchanter(and I am). I benefit you with my proffesion when I DE' unneeded loot. And I ask how do you benefit me with your proffesions? Someone said that he gives potions to his group when he levels his alchemy. And after he max it, does he still gives potions to his group? I never got a single potion in a PUG , but I still continue to DE, even when proffesion is maxed. Or did I ever got a sharpening stone for example from a blacksmiter ? the answer is no. So why should I offer to benefit the party when they dont benefit me? Why do you say selfish? Is using your own proffesion for making profit selfish (I stricktly stick with the "need if need , greed if not" rule) ?
I mentioned giving potions to party members. Yes, If I have the mats I provide pots to party members for free. Generally I bring mats for mana pots for the healers and I often have mats for other pots as well. I also will make pots for them from their mats for free. The more capable the party the more likely we are to have a successful run and success benefits everyone.

Not us. We have to chose between "Sell this blue for 12g." and "Disenchant it and get a shard that
might
help you to get a skill-up
I find this useful for the context of the thread.
The shards are worth more than the vendor price. That's why people want Enchanters to DE things in 5-mans that no one needs; because shards can be used by everyone for their personal enchants when they hit 80.
As has been mentioned, it's no different to greed rolling on items when they drop, aside from the fact that people will want the shard more than they want the useless item that they have to vendor: i.e., the Enchanter's being a prick if he refuses to DE and roll, and insists, instead, on greed rolls.
In short, OP is butthurt because he never wins /rolls. In other words, under his system, if he were to continue not winning Greed rolls, he would argue that an Enchanter should be allowed to "Need" on items that no one else wants because he "Needs the enchanting mats". Sorry. Doesn't work like that.

They would rather sell the shard than the BoP item?
Only reason I can think of.

If you can DE, ffs DE the stuff than roll on the shard ! , you have EXACTLY the same chance to get a shard as if you keep quiet and greed on the item itself...
you have
EXACTLY the same chance
to get a shard

i work on this system
roll need for need
i greed to DE
everyone else passes
if you roll need on something you get no shard
if you win a greed on BoE you get no shard
at the end you may choose to forfeit your shard for a free enchant with my mats should i have them on me, if not /roll away
basically works like the standard except some people get instant upgrades should i have the mats on me :P

To the OP:
But if a party member requests that you wait for others to roll and if none of them needs it, then you will need on it to DE and roll for the shard, I don't see ANY reason you'd refuse this unless you're a total prick.
I concur.

Also, Enchanters think of it this way, If you don't DE in the long run there will be less shards lying around. Think of how many times each of you have been asked to enchant somin, and you do it for free because your leveling, the only catch is that it is there mats doing it, where do they get theses mats? They buy them from those who rolled for the shards you de'd, So in the end you Score Skill points someway or another from every shard that is made. (or rather enchanters in general do)

I've never understood why this is made into such an issue.
a) *Something* drops.
b) If no one Needs that *Something* then everyone rolls and someone wins it.
c) Now... if someone in the group happens to be an enchanter, they have the ability (if they choose) to turn that *Something* into *Something Else* that's worth more, just to be nice. If they choose not to, so be it. But you're not really rolling on a *Shard*, you're rolling because *Something* dropped and everyone should have an equal chance to roll on loot (again, unless someone Needs it.)
