I want to look at this from an economics perspective.
Although currently on my server, shards sell for about the same as a vendored blue, the new patch will introduce more recipies that require shards, meaning that the price will rise. We'll say...15g
A blue BOP drops off of a boss...no one needs it for mainspec or offspec. Therefore, the item is only worth 4-8g for the four non-enchanters, the vendor value. The item is worth 15g to the enchanter because he can DE it and sell the shard for 15g. The enchanter can either
a. Greed on the item like everyone else.
b. Agree to de the item and let everyone roll on the resulting shard.
Since the enchanter does not increase his chances to win the shard by DEing the item for the group, he has essentially done all the other group members a favor. He has increased the value of their item by ~8g.
Since there is no benefit in disenchanting the item for the group, besides gaining the goodwill of the group (not much considering its expected), why should the enchanter do this?
I don't have an answer for this question. The whole system seems to be biased toward the non-ders, as they are the only ones benefiting from his work. This is why you should tip your DEer 3 or 4 gold when he hands you a shard--you are sharing with him the value he has added to the item.
If you really want to be excactly fair, you should tip him (Average Shard Price-Vendor Price) / 2
I like this.

If its gold u want, why the hell r u askin me to DE?
who looks stupid now?
Because Shards = gold!
@Syncopated77: And if the group was not there, your chance to get the shards would be 0. So you should be thankful to your group to allow you to DE stuff and should tip them!

Did you even bother to read his post? Surely you can't be that silly...

Syncopated77 idea is good
as all other Profs, its a "Charge"
look it this way!
LW: he make you stuff = he want some of the profit to make it, a charge for the work
JC: he can make stuff AND crumble ore for gem's = he can charge for the work to make it....and prospect ore for a charge
Enchanter: he can enchant stuff AND dischant = he can charge for make stuff...and for dischant...
and charge for dischant not shards that get out of item
you get it? well the problem on OP of post he wanted not just a "bit" he wanted ALL off the profit, big different
but i will NEVER charge a item half it worth of what you get, i just pay you to "disenchant it" not to tax the goods from it or what you dischant , i just say charge 5 g item per dischant (blue) and 2g on Green
why enchanter look greedy ? because enchanter is the hardest prof to level and they get little out of it, most people who earn on enchants is people who know how to use AH and market , but so many want it easy and get to greedy , i understand they want their share of the cake of profit. but many not know how to do it well.

Guess I should of "expected" that LW to craft my cloak since I had all the mats. Besides, I came to him, i found him, he didnt advertise or anything, but no, b/c I am an enchanter and know that people SUCK(!) I gave him a 25g tip, on an item that cost me about 510g to get crafted.
*EDIT* You know, if we enchanters stopped d/e your items, and allow you to flood OUR market, we would be able to rip you guys off SO much. Complaining about helping us out when in fact, we allow you to add more supply than there is demand. I think a little appreciation is deserved =)
and no one else need to pay for that cost? just because you" enchanter" you must pay more? irrelevant and just cry baby roar
stopped d/e? then just more start! follow on demand!
just learn to charge and i bet you earn some cash to then just tears

I DE for all groups for free and roll with all the players for the shards. I would not have got the loot without them so I share fairly. Any other way is small minded and greedy, a lot like some of the enchanters who have posted.

If you are too lazy to take 30 seconds to DE
It's not about how much it takes to D/E, it's about how long it takes you to be able to do so. Alchemists/Blacksmiths/Leatherworkers/Tailors/Jewelcrafters/Inscribers charge for their services. Why shouldn't enchanters do so? Is D/Eing not considered a service?

people who want 5g in tipping are arseholes or do not understand the economic world of warcraft. In BC it was justified to have 5g bcs you generally made less money from the dailies and gear and instances.
in wotlk the number has been increased that you make from those three sources so an enchanter should get 15g to 30g, depending on the difficult of the enchant.
Also this enchanters get shard always is silly.
1. the enchanter does not have to shard and that is true and can roll on greed loot.
2. The enchanter shard all stuff and they do a fair roll at the end, with the rule 5 shards every one gets. 6 shard roll for shard, if abyss roll for them.
3. The enchanter is the disser and gets shards himself.
1. Lets say this grp does a heroic, 5 blue drops from bosses happens and only one of those pieces was needed. The grp who does not know the enchanter is in it or the enchanter refuses. They roll greed and the enchanter with luck could win one piece. if not all 4 pieces will be vendored. That means the Server will start lacking shards in the AH and the prices will go up and make them more expensive and people would not enchant so often or do special runs to make sure the guilds get enchant. meaning many enchanters would have it even harder to get the proffesion up and sell stuff.
2. This time the enchanter does diss all 4 stuff and may have a chance to win shard. Even if he is the losing 5th, he can always comfort himself with the thought some of the shards will go on AH, so in the long run the enchanter can buy the shard cheaper and people want more enchanters to enchant their shiny new gear. Perhaps not making the enchanter happy knowing he can lose that free shard. that is the drawback.
3. The enchanter shards and keep shards. THe grp think he is a foker and they do not like him that much. The enchanters gets control on a major part of shards and if they play it smart can set the price on the server. This will mean higher prices with shards, also people will not like enchanters that much to have in a grp.
Also enchanting is one of the proffesion you cna control then to get that recepie and how long!
So stop whining you little $%^&s and think of how the JC and alchemsit feels(we got buff 3 days cd now luckily!was foking 7 days!)

I am a Blacksmith and an Engineer. I charge nothing when I do things for people. If they want to give me a tip, that is fine but I do not ask or demand it. I think your idea is utter bs and this is coming from someone who tipped an Enchanter 60g to do the new stamina enchant for me last night.
I am ok with the idea of the enchanter walking away with a shard as long as said enchanter did not take loot in the run. But to suggest that you are entitled to the Abyss crystal because you DE is just plain stupidity.
Simple solution. If you roll on gear, you don't get to roll on a shard. If there are 4 shards to go around, the enchanter gets one and everyone who didn't loot rolls on the other 3. If there is an abyss to be given out, highest roll gets it.
If you don't like that, don't offer to DE.
2 Things.
Read the Edit
And you are 1 who does not charge out of 100000k who do.
God bless you.
Edit: That's actually 3
