I don't know if pre Wrath can be considered "old school" but I'll throw this one out there.
you remember people gawking and commenting in trade over a warrior or pally tank with 30k health unbuffed..lol
Edit* I mean that I started pre wrath(month before release) the tank recollection was some time into wrath, but still, people were like "holy #$(! look at this dude's health!

Your Rogue was stealthed as he approached the Lumbermill, but his White Kitten was not.
I once heard that your companion pets are hidden to others when you use stealth abilities, is that true?

Finally I changed icons so I don't look like you!

You finally realize that your main spec is long out-dated.
You spent countless hours jumping around Ironforge for no apparent reason.

You might be an old-school WoW player if...
You get nostalgic when you fly over the Wetlands, remembering the legendary,
long
, Night-Elf-trek to Stormwind from Teldrassil.
You remember scaling mountains to the "Airport" near Ironforge, disappearing under SW, or hanging out in Old Ironforge before it was opened.
You killed the giants in front of "Uldum" and wondered where that mysterious door with the black hole lead.
You admired the deliciously-colorful, Dalaran "bubble" before it disappeared.
Weapon skills... running through the Stockades, killing everything with your fists.
You had to run...
everywhere
until level 40.

I know it was mentioned, but the thing i remember most is the pride of getting my very first mount at 40.. it was like graduation from school...." I'm a big kid now!"...lol

No, from Darkshore to Ironforge, because each faction only had one AH!

You remember when epic mounts and items were actually epic and not free giveaways.

I remember the call to arms for world dragon raids.
Also, farming DM for librams and actually needing them or knowing what they were for.
What about pugging and knowing someone is capable just by taking one look at there toon.
Months of grinding for the epic mount quest, and then having to face Rattlegore.
Being so happy to get linken's boomerang and finally having a ranged attack.
Finally seeing what happens when and unstoppable force meets an immovable object.
If you got yelled at for looting the dogs.
If you remember complex pulls which required careful planning and lots of space cause fear was a necessary CC.
As a paladin you were required to have the addon pally power, cause point and clicking every 5 minutes took too long.

I'll try and keep this to things that haven't been mentioned..
WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE LOOT THE CORE HOUND!
Waiting 15 minutes for the raid leader to assign CC targets for Garr and Executus, 'assist me, that's your target' for someone to lose their target and have to start all over again
5 minute paladin blessings
All raid buffs required reagents
Rogues had to brew their own poisons and needed blinding powder and reagents for blind/vanish
Race specific priest abilities
World bosses that were actually bosses
Kazzak in Stormwind, Azuregos in Orgrimmar
3 hour 15 man UBRS runs that weren't seen as raids
Epics were epic
Priest/hunter weapons from MC
Queuing for battlegrounds at their respective portal location (lots of fun had here)
Resistance sets for specific bosses (and Onyxia scale cloak for Nefarion)
Unstoppable force proc......
Chinese farmers in Tyrs hand (I actually befriended one and became pen pals with him) - back before they turned to trash and began hacking accounts
People actually used the NPCs in AV, handed in scraps etc.. remember the wolf riders?
Titles meant something
You were excited to get a piece of blue gear

If you remember running out of bag space because you had too many pets.
If you remember running all over the world looking for a place to level your fishing.
If you're surprised when you level in a battleground.
If you know where the "Simon" daily is.
If you can make
these
.

Admittedly, there's not much point to commenting on this after 5 years, and in 8 pages of posts someone has probably already pointed it out, but...
you used to wonder what the caverns of time, dark portal, and deadwind pass were all about
If you'd played the RTS' and paid attention to the story you knew what two of those (portal, deadwind) were about from the get-go. Or read the Last Guardian, which is a good book.

How can you tell if someone is vegan, has a rescue dog, is writing a book, or played WoW during Vanilla?
Don't worry, they'll tell you.
;P
